Suspect in triple homicide forced woman to drive him 2,000 miles before turning himself in to Wisconsin police: cops

An Oregon man wanted in three murders, including his own father, found a woman sitting in her car during a lunch break, held her at gunpoint and forced her to drive him 2,000 miles to Wisconsin, where he surrendered Sunday, according to local officials.

Oen Evan Nicholson, 30, was wanted in a string of violent crimes around North Bend, Ore., beginning Friday night when he allegedly ran over a couple at a casino RV park and fled. Anthony Oyster, 74, was killed and his wife, 73-year-old Linda, was left in critical condition.

Minutes later, Jennifer Davidson, 47, was fatally shot at a marijuana dispensary down the road.

Nicholson’s father, Charles Simms Nicholson, was also found dead inside a trailer at the same RV park where the Oysters were hit, according to police. Officials believe he ran over the Oysters while fleeing the scene after killing his father.

It’s unclear if Nicholson has any relationship with the other victims.

On Sunday afternoon, after more than a day of widespread searching by police and local authorities, Nicholson ended up in Milwaukee, according to the Springfield Police Department.

Nicholson allegedly walked up to 34-year-old Laura Johnson Friday while she was eating lunch in her car, then forced her to drive him 2,000 miles north to Wisconsin.

“They said she was forced to drive 33 hours to where they’re at,” Johnson’s father, Dennis, told KEZI. “She was able to talk him into turning himself in.”

Officials said Johnson was unharmed.

“Words fall short of describing the tragedy that took place on Friday and the ensuing events in Lane County and we’re all left incredibly shaken,” North Bend Mayor Jessica Engelke said at a press conference Sunday, calling it a “terrible act of violence.”

“This is something you hope never happens in your community, in the town that you call home.”

As of Sunday, Nicholson was being held in Wisconsin awaiting extradition to Oregon, where he will be charged.
