Suspect in killing of cyclist Anna Moriah Wilson nabbed in Costa Rica

A woman accused of a love-triangle killing in Texas was caught in Costa Rica — after a flight from justice that took her through New York.

Kaitlin Armstrong, 34, is accused of killing world-class cyclist Anna Moriah Wilson in May. She was arrested Wednesday at a Santa Teresa Beach hostel, the U.S. Marshals Service announced Thursday.

Armstrong, of Austin, Texas, used a fake passport to fly from Newark Airport to Costa Rica on the evening of May 18, the Marshals Service said. She raised $12,200 by selling her SUV five days earlier, then flew from Texas to LaGuardia Airport, made her way to Newark and fled the country, the law-enforcement agency said.

Surveillance video recorded that vehicle outside the home where Wilson was found dead, an arrest affidavit said.

Wilson, a Vermont native, was shot several times in an Austin apartment on May 11. The 25-year-old athlete had been in Austin for a 157-mile race.

CNN reported in May that Wilson and Armstrong both had romantic relationships with the same man.

Austin police said on the night of Wilson’s death that her shooting did “not appear to be a random act.” On May 17, they issued a homicide warrant for Armstrong.

Wilson, known as “Mo,” was a highly regarded gravel and mountain bike racer. Authorities said she had dated cyclist Colin Strickland, who is Armstrong’s longtime boyfriend. Wilson and Strickland’s relationship allegedly occurred while he and Strickland were on a break that began with their temporary split in October. The affidavit states Strickland is cooperating with investigators who do not consider him a suspect.
