Suspect charged with murdering model, friend found dumped outside hospitals may have more victims

The man accused of murdering an aspiring model and her designer friend after a night of partying in the Los Angeles area may have other victims, according to Los Angeles County District Attorney George Gascón.

Gascón formally announced in a press conference Tuesday that 40-year-old David Pearce has been charged in the deaths of Christy Giles and her friend Hilda Marcela Cabrales-Arzola, who were found abandoned and unresponsive outside two separate hospitals on Nov. 13.

The night prior, the women enjoyed a night on the town before landing at an apartment in in West Los Angeles with a group of men they’d met while party-hopping. Family members have said the last text message Giles sent was to Cabrales-Arzola around 5:30 a.m., saying “let’s go” with a surprised-face emoji, ABC 7 reported.

Cabrales-Arzola replied, “Yes. I’ll call an Uber” — but they never got in the car.

Hours later, Giles body was dumped on the sidewalk outside Southern California Hospital in Culver City. She was pronounced dead on the scene.

About two miles away, Cabrales-Arzola was found outside Kaiser Permanente Hospital in West L.A. She died days later on Nov. 24, less than a week before her 27th birthday.

“I recognize that these charges are a small consolation to the friends and family members of Ms. Arzola and Ms. Giles,” Gascón said in a statement.

“I’m sure that they want to know what happened to their loved ones and why. Today we are one step closer in the search for that truth. And although we know nothing can bring these daughters and friends back to us, I promise that my office will do everything in its power to hold those that harmed them accountable.”

Amid extreme outrage and demands from the victims’ family for immediate action, the LAPD picked up Pearce, Brandt Osborn and Michael Ansbach in mid-December last year. Pearce was booked on suspicion of manslaughter while Osborn — an aspiring actor arrested on the Hollywood set of CBS’ “NCIS: Los Angeles” — and Ansbach were charged with accessory to manslaughter at the time.

Giles’ cause of death was listed as “multiple drug intoxication,” according to reports by the Los Angeles County Medical Examiner-Coroner’s office. She had a deadly combination of cocaine, fentanyl, ketamine and gamma-hydroxybutyrate acid (GHB) — often referred to as the “date rape drug” — in her system when she died. Cabrales-Arzola meanwhile died from multiple organ failure and “multiple drug intoxication,” according to the report. She tested positive for cocaine and MDMA and other drugs that were undetermined.

Pearce was later accused of giving the women a deadly cocktail of drugs resulting in their overdose deaths while police said the other pair of suspects, claiming to be good Samaritans, drove the friends to different hospitals and then abandoned them there.

The Los Angeles District Attorney previously declined to charge Osborn and Ansbach, citing a lack of evidence, and they were ultimately released. On Tuesday, Gascón also announced Osborn is facing two counts of accessory after the fact.

Pearce meanwhile, remained behind bars on separate rape charges.

“I also ask that any other potential survivors listening today join us in stepping forward to report any information they may have related to these two defendants,” Gascón said. “My office and our Bureau of Victims Services stand ready to listen, assist and support you. You are not alone.”

Both Pearce and Osborn are slated to be arraigned on July 11 while Ansbach has not been charged in the case.
