'Survivor' contestant makes the one mistake you're never supposed to make

On Survivor Wednesday, the Ua tribe was facing yet another tribal council to vote someone off and Shantel Smith, known by Shan on the show, was looking to pull off her second major blindside in as many weeks.

After not being impressed with fellow tribe member Jairus Robinson, aka JD, and his abilities in that day’s elimination challenge, Shan started hatching a plan to try and retrieve JD’s extra vote advantage from him. She tried convincing him that she thinks he wants to vote her off, and it worked, as JD gave her his advantage “to hold” until after tribal council as a way to earn her trust.

That prompted viewers on Twitter to start realizing what was happening, commenting that JD was being way too “naive” and “gullible.”

Sure enough, JD became the fifth person voted out of Survivor 41 during tribal council that night, and walked away in shock.

Reactions on Twitter were equal parts impressed with Shan, saying things like “DAMN SHAN, what a move!!!!" And also equal parts unimpressed with JD with comments like, “welcome to Survivor Hall of shame,” and calling it a “boneheaded move.”

While it is debatable where he lands in the discussion of some of the worst players in the show’s history, even JD had to give credit where credit was due.

“They played me, man, like, good on them. Like, damn that was a good blindside,” he said.

Survivor airs Wednesdays at 8 p.m. on CBS.
