Surgeon general cited after entering closed Hawaii park, court papers say

It wasn’t his most successful operation.

Dr. Jerome Adams, the U.S. surgeon general, ran into trouble with the law in August after he entered a closed park in Hawaii, according to court papers.

Surgeon General Jerome Adams said he didn't know a Hawaii park was closed, according to court documents.

A criminal citation dated Aug. 23 said the anesthesiologist was spotted at Kualoa Regional Park on the island of Oahu as he soaked in the views with two other men.

Adams said he didn’t know the park was closed and that he was visiting the island to assist Hawaii Gov. David Ige with the coronavirus crisis, according to the filing.

On Aug. 6., Honolulu Mayor Kirk Caldwell issued a county-wide order closing parks on the island of Oahu.

Adams, 46, is due in court for a remote hearing on Oct. 21.
