This Supportive Mattress Has Me Wanting to Work from Bed

As a child, I could sleep through anything. Fourth of July fireworks were considered white noise and winter storms were like a lullaby. However, as I've gotten older, my conditions for a good night's rest have gotten increasingly complicated. The air conditioner must be off, but the air purifier can stay on; top sheets are a non-starter and the squishiest pillow gets thrown to the ground. But if there's one constant throughout, it's this: the right mattress must be soft yet supportive. And while scientists and my therapist both insist that your bedroom should be a sanctuary, there's something about working, writing, and knitting from underneath my linen duvet cover that I'll never quite be able to abandon.

When Purple asked if I'd like to test out their RejuvenatePlus mattress for House Beautiful's 2023 Live Better Awards, I immediately started canceling plans in order to spend as much time in bed as possible. Boasting temperature-balancing foam and dual layers of support, I had high hopes, and spoiler alert—the mattress met every nit-picky standard and then some.

Delivery and Install

All in all, delivery was a breeze. About a week before my mattress arrived, I received a call to schedule a four-hour window in which the piece would be delivered and installed. Because this is no mattress-in-a-box, it's best to let the professionals handle the heavy, rolled-up mattress.

On the day of delivery, the movers arrived early in the window and installed the mattress directly onto my existing bed frame. They even carted away my old mattress without hassle. I was on a work call the entire time and only had to mute myself to open my front door.

Features and Specs

Non-toxic and hypoallergenic, the RejuvenatePlus mattress features a laundry list of comfort components in order to make every night your best night's sleep. With a base of coils, six different layers of foam, and Purple's signature grid, the RejuvenatePlus is made to last longer than traditional mattresses. While the 2.5-inch GelFlex® Grid Plus, Dual Layer Ultra Comfort Foam, Active Response Comfort Foam, Edge Support Foam, Edge Support System, and 3 Zone Responsive Coil System sounds like gibberish to those who aren't familiar with Purple's technology, you can rest assured that the combination of foam and coils offers support while still allowing me to sink into the mattress. Memory foam is normally notorious for trapping heat and leaving you sweating throughout the night, but Purple offsets this with a quilted top cover that has a cooling finish. (It actually cools.)

The mattress is ideal for side sleepers and those who often experience pain in their shoulders and hips.

Price

Purple mattresses are an investment, it's true. A queen-sized RejuvenatePlus costs $6,495. But how much is too much for an improved night's sleep and less back pain? I wouldn't say this mattress is ideal for those in their first apartment or looking for a cost-effective model, but if the RejuvenatePlus ticks all your bedtime boxes, why compromise? Purple also offers a 10-year, limited warranty that covers any problems you might have after purchasing. From my experience, their customer service is very kind and responsive, soothing any worries or issues you may have.

Pros of the RejuvenatePlus

  • Supportive on restless nights

  • Effective cooling cover

  • Seamless installation process

Cons of the RejuvenatePlus

  • 16.5 inches tall compared to the average 12-inch mattress height.

  • Heavy (I'm already dreading the annual mattress rotation process)

  • It's pricey! But financing options are available.

Final Thoughts

Maybe it's the mattress, or maybe it's my newly fixed, central A/C, but I've never slept better. My lower back pain has nearly disappeared! I no longer feel like I need to sleep with an ice pack to prevent myself from overheating. While the mattress does feel more like a medium firmness than a true, cloudlike feel, the RejuvenatePlus strikes a balance between cocooning and easy-to-move on that I didn't know I needed. I've also noticed that I don't get jostled if my partner gets up before I do in the morning. It may have only been a few months, but I look forward to all the restful nights ahead of me.
