New ‘Superman’ movie will be filmed in Macon. How to apply to be an extra

Casting directors posted an open call for actors interested in working as extras on a new Warner Bros. Superman movie filming in Georgia, including in the Macon area at the end of May.

The film has a working title of “Genesis,” but last year “Hollywood North Buzz” reported it is “Superman: Legacy,” the first installment of James Gunn’s reboot of the DC Universe.

On Feb. 29, the first day of principal photography on the film, director Gunn announced he renamed the final script simply “Superman” and removed “Legacy” from the title.

On auditionsfree.com, an updated casting call from centralcasting.com is looking for people in Middle Georgia who “can portray South Asian or Caucasian for this particular part of filming.”

South Asians of all ages, including minors, should apply, but the call for white actors is for those 18 years old and older, according to the post.

“You will be asked to run in the sand with loud sounds going off occasionally around you, so please be sure you are physically equipped and can work for 12 hours a day for four days straight in Macon, GA,” the release stated.

To be considered, applicants must be available for multiple days in late May and early June.

Anyone wanting to work on the movie is asked to email their name, contact information — including phone number and email — and a current picture to zoltar@centralcasting.com.

Adults also can register with Central Casting for other opportunities by going online to centralcasting.com/ga/sign-up.

Although the Superman production only is expected to be filming a handful of days, crews are expected to be in Macon for weeks to prepare for scene work.

While official details about filming locations have not been released, The Macon Newsroom has learned a movie crew will be setting up temporary quarters in the Terminal Station after the departure of the Macon-Bibb County Planning & Zoning Commission to its new location at Macon Mall. Those dates coincide with the “Genesis” shooting schedule announced in the casting release.

Other published reports say the movie currently is in production at Trilith Studios in Fayetteville.

Plot summations show the film will explore “Superman’s quest to reconcile his Kryptonian roots with his upbringing as Clark Kent in the quaint town of Smallville, Kansas. Embodied as the beacon of truth, justice, and the American way, Superman grapples with the challenge of upholding these virtues in a world where such values are often considered antiquated. The role of the new Superman will be portrayed by David Corenswet.”

The movie has a release date of July 11, 2025.
