Summit County Democratic Party elects new chair, treasurer

Following its Wednesday night reorganizational meeting, the Summit County Democrat Party has a new chair and treasurer.

Former party chair Tom Bevan stepped aside for former Treasurer Mark Derrig to take the wheel. Derrig ran for the position unopposed.

Taking Derrig’s spot as treasurer is Morgan Ferrel, who also ran unopposed.

Edna Borders was reelected as first vice chair. She was the lone nominee.

The races for second and third vice chair were contested.

Omar Banks faced off against Fran Wilson for second vice chair. Banks won reelection in a 125 to 27 vote.

Valerie McKitrick and Arell Tee faced off for the third vice chair position. McKitrick won in a 103 to 47 vote.

Russ Balthiss was re-elected as secretary and Aja Mixon was re-elected as deputy treasurer, both in uncontested races.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
