Summer music guide: 298 local concerts from Chris Stapleton to Olivia Rodrigo

Hear that? Hear that buzz heading our way? No, not the cicadas. That other buzz — the sound of your favorite summer music making its way to you.

You have to meet it half-way, though, be it through an evening at a neighborhood haunt or by way of a road-trip with the windows down and the sun (or storms) leading the way. But it all places you in the midst of an ocean of sounds that have been simmering for the season.

With Memorial Day weekend — and the unofficial start of summer — at hand, we have assembled our annual road map to live music as it will unfold until Labor Day hits us with a seasonal reality check.

That map is our Summer Music Guide, a roundup of over 300 concerts taking place within a two-hour drive of Lexington over the next three months and change. And, yes, it includes shows happening for staycation-ers here at home.

A few newsworthy notes: There is again no Forecastle scheduled for Louisville, although hometown hero Jack Harlow has spearheaded a new event to take its place called Gazebo. Derby City’s remaining blockbuster festivals, Bourbon & Beyond and Louder Than Life, are back. They’re again scheduled for late September, though, long after the Summer Music Guide has hung up its flip-flops for the season.

Also, be prepared for more sticker shock. Many of the concerts listed here boast premium seating at cardiac arresting prices — in the thousands in some cases. The majority of tickets sell for comparatively less budget-busting sums.

Finally, as always, check with the venue before each performance, especially if it calls for a drive, to make sure your show is actually happening. Everything listed here is confirmed as of this writing, but lots can change as the season wears on. A few cancellations or re-schedules are inevitable.

So with that, grab your calendars and the sun screen and plot what shows you will taking in during the weeks and months ahead to make your summer especially electric.
