“Succession” Actor Alan Ruck Sued by Driver Who Claims He Sustained 'Severe Injuries' in Pizzeria Crash

In a new complaint, driver Horacio Vela claims actor Alan Ruck was driving "recklessly" and "violating traffic rules and regulations" on the night of the collision in Hollywood

Alan Ruck is being sued by a driver who claims he collided with his car on Halloween night.

Horacio Vela filed a complaint obtained by PEOPLE in Los Angeles County's Superior Court against the Succession actor, 67, claiming negligence and seeking unspecified monetary damages stemming from a crash that occurred at the intersection of N. La Brea Ave and Hollywood Blvd. in Hollywood at approximately 9:01 p.m. on Oct. 31.

Vela was operating his 2020 Hyundai Elantra at the intersection "patiently waiting at the red traffic signal" when Ruck, positioned behind Vela's Elantra, "abruptly and forcefully" accelerated his 2023 Rivian R1T, colliding with the Elantra's right rear bumper, according to the complaint.

The force of the impact propelled Vela's car forward into the intersection where it collided with another vehicle, the complaint states.

Ruck "continued driving at a high rate of speed" and made a right turn onto Hollywood Blvd.

Vela was later transported by ambulance to Cedar Sinai Medical Center to treat "severe injuries," according to the complaint. His Elantra also sustained "significant damage" and was deemed a "total loss," requiring it be towed from the scene.

Vela's complaint states that Ruck "failed to operate the vehicle in a safe and reasonable manner," and was "driving recklessly violating traffic rules and regulations and driving with reckless disregard" for his safety.

As a result of the crash, the complaints states that Vela "sustained serious injuries and damages, property damage, costs of past and future medical care, pain and suffering, mental anguish, emotional distress, and other consequential damages."

Reps for Ruck did not immediately respond to PEOPLE's request for comment.

A spokesperson for the Los Angeles Police Department previously confirmed the details of a four-vehicle collision crash to PEOPLE that resulted in Ruck's truck crashing into Raffallo's Pizza in Hollywood. TMZ was the first outlet to report the news of Ruck's involvement in the incident.

According to the LAPD spokesperson, ambulances were called to the scene in Hollywood after the collision. They confirmed a 40-year-old woman and a 25-year-old man were involved. Authorities said there were no significant injuries in the crash, aside from the 40-year-old woman complaining of pain to her arms.

A spokesperson for the Los Angeles Fire Department also told NBC Los Angeles that a 32-year-old man was transported to a hospital after the crash. The extent of his injuries, as well as his role in the accident, were unclear. PEOPLE had reached out to the LAFD at the time for comment.

Ruck, for his part, reportedly remained at the scene after the collision, per TMZ.

Speaking to PEOPLE at the time, the LAPD spokesperson did not confirm whether the accident was a DUI, nor whether a sobriety check occurred.

PEOPLE also obtained a photo of the aftermath of the crash, showing yellow tape blocking off the destroyed building with debris scattered around the area.

Ruck has acted in dozens of television and film productions over his 40-year career, including Ferris Bueller's Day Off and Spin City. He earned a 2023 Emmy nomination earlier this year for outstanding supporting actor in a drama series for his portrayal of Connor Roy on HBO's Succession.
