Subaru of Macon raises more than $19,000 for ‘food, laundry, showers,’ more

Subaru of Macon raised more than $19,000 for the nonprofit organization Daybreak Day Resource Center through its Share the Love campaign, the dealership announced Friday.

The campaign, which ran from Nov. 16 through Jan. 2, raised a total of $19,869. This is the seventh year Daybreak has benefited from the Share the Love campaign and has received a total of $155,835 since its first year.

Sister Theresa Sullivan, director of Daybreak, said the campaign supports the daily operations of the nonprofit which served 2,055 people last year.

“These funds help provide food, laundry, showers, medical care, computer access, and case management for the homeless,” she said. “Many were helped to find jobs and housing - Subaru helps make this happen.”

Sullivan said in addition to the Share the Love campaign, Subaru has been part of Daybreak’s Macon Sleepout and has annually sponsored the Fill the Subaru donation drive.

Periodically, Subaru has served breakfast at Daybreak and has loaned the nonprofit a canopy for events, she says.

“They are partners in many ways,” Sullivan said. “When it comes to caring about the community they walk the talk.”

Daybreak is part of Depaul USA, a national homeless services nonprofit organization and affiliate of the international homelessness services organization, Depaul International Group.

Jim Waters, Subaru Encore delivery specialist, said this year marks the 16th annual Subaru Share the Love campaign.

“Subaru and its retailers are committed to helping their communities through the Subaru Love Promise,” he said. “Since 2008, Subaru of America and its retailers have held the Share the Love event at the end of the year through the holiday season to give back to charities in the communities Subaru retailers know and love.”

Waters said for the duration of the campaign, any new vehicle purchased or leased at every retailer around the country, Subaru and its retailers donated a minimum of $300 to charity.

Subaru and its retailers nationwide selected 832 hometown charities within their local communities, and overall, these organizations received a record $24 million in contributions, Waters says.

He said Daybreak was chosen because of the wonderful work they are doing in the Macon community to help those burdened by homelessness.

“Their programs are effective and continue to expand, providing more and more services to more and more people,” Waters said. “Subaru of Macon is honored to partner with Daybreak to help ease the burdens of people caught up in homelessness and to more importantly help them escape the hopelessness of being homeless and to gain security from the programs that are made available to them through Daybreak.”
