Stuntman who fell 40 feet in 'America's Got Talent' accident shares update

Updated

An "America's Got Talent: Extreme" stuntman who was hospitalized after a horrific on-set accident has issued an update thanking fans, followers and family for their support as he recovers.

Last week, Jonathan Goodwin, 41, was rehearsing for a stunt that involved him dodging two colliding cars while suspended in mid-air. Goodwin was instead struck by the two vehicles, which caused him to fall 40 feet to the ground, missing a safety air bag, according to an incident report obtained by NBC News.

According to the incident report, Goodwin was conscious and alert after the accident, but suffered broken bones in both legs, as well as burns and lacerations. The show paused production after the accident.

On Wednesday, Goodwin posted a photo of himself in a hospital bed, covered in red marks and showing off a white cast on his arm.

"You can’t say you don’t get out what you put in," Goodwin began. "I've tried my hardest over the years to be kind, thoughtful, honest supportive and good. A couple of days ago my life took a complete left turn… and the out pouring of love from all the corners of the world; from people I didn’t even think would know or remember me… has just been astonishing. Truly incredible. I will have a lot to say on that matter and the benefits of being kind in the future.. but thank you.

"Thank you to everyone who has reached out and sent their love and support. It literally has been a lifesaver," continued Goodwin, who then issued some personal thanks to family and friends. "I have been to the very brink and dodged the worst that a human being can, without fear…because I was protected by love."

Goodwin did not elaborate on his injuries or recovery, but instead said that he was looking forward to continuing his daredevil career.

"To death I say nananana boo boo… and to the rest of you… watch this space," Goodwin, who in recent years has appeared on "Britain's Got Talent" and "America's Got Talent," wrote. "There is a long road to recovery and that won’t look like what it did…I may leave the daft s--- alone for a while, but I have a lot left to do in this world. Maybe we can make something good together?"

"Our thoughts and prayers remain with Jonathan Goodwin and his family as he continues to recover from his accident on Thursday," the show said in a statement earlier this week, adding, "The health and safety of our cast and crew continue to be our priority."

"America's Got Talent: Extreme" is a new spinoff of NBC's "America's Got Talent" franchise. NBC is owned by NBCUniversal, the parent company of NBC News.
