Studio Ghibli's The Boy and the Heron confirms first UK screening
Studio Ghibli's new movie The Boy and the Heron has finally confirmed its first UK screening will be at this year's BFI London Film Festival.
The latest (and possibly final) movie from the legendary Hayao Miyazaki was given a mysterious release in Japan in July, arriving in cinemas without any trailers or images released ahead of its debut.
International audiences have received a bit more of an insight into the movie, previously known as How Do You Live?, with some first-look images unveiled earlier this month.
And now UK fans will be able to see The Boy and the Heron when it screens as part of the Special Presentations at this year's BFI London Film Festival, which runs from October 4 to October 15.
This year's festival includes 29 world premieres, seven international premieres and 30 European premieres across its 252 titles, with 39% of the programme (99 titles) made by female or non-binary directors.
It was already announced that Saltburn would open this year's festival and The Kitchen would close the event, but they're far from the only major movies screening.
Other movies alongside The Boy and the Heron in the Special Presentations selection at the festival include Foe, starring Saoirse Ronan and Paul Mescal, Hit Man with Glen Powell in the lead role and Priscilla, starring Jacob Elordi and Cailee Spaeny.
Among the Gala premieres are Andrew Scott's new movie All of Us Strangers, David Fincher's The Killer, Martin Scorsese's Killers of the Flower Moon, Bradley Cooper's Maestro and Poor Things, starring Emma Stone and Mark Ruffalo.
It was previously announced that Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget would receive its world premiere at the festival, while the Official Competition selection includes Starve Acre, starring Matt Smith and Morfydd Clark.
"In preparing this 2023 festival, my colleagues and I have been endlessly buoyed by the artistry, ideas and talented individuals and communities that have come into our orbit," said Kristy Matheson, BFI London Film Festival director.
"It's now time to share all this wonder and for audiences to experience it all this October here in London and across the UK with LFF on Tour and online at BFI Player."
You can check out the full BFI London Film Festival programme on the festival's website, and tickets for all screenings will go on sale on September 12 following an early sale for BFI members from September 6.
The BFI London Film Festival runs from October 4 to October 15.
