It's strawberry season. Here's where to pick your own or find fresh produce in Fayetteville

Farms and farmers markets throughout the Sandhills are gearing up for a busy, berry-filled spring season.

Strawberries are already here, June brings blackberries, and blueberries ripen in July. You can pick your own or buy prepicked berries straight from the field at several spots in the Fayetteville area.

Farmers markets are in full swing, too. You can find produce and other local food at year-round stores and seasonal markets. attracting vendors from throughout the region.

Here are some of the farms in Cumberland County and the surrounding areas to pick your own produce, as well as a list of Fayetteville-area farmers markets.

Pick your own berries in Cumberland County

Gillis Hill Road Produce

Gillis Hill Road Produce at 2899 Gillis Hill Road in Fayetteville offers farm-fresh produce and eggs; house-made pickles, salsa and jams; local baked goods and artisanal self-care products. Market hours are 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Friday and 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday.

Carter Blueberry Farm

Around July, Carter Blueberry Farm at 4120 Clinton Road in Fayetteville opens for blueberry season. Customers can typically pick their own berries on Monday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday mornings and Tuesday and Thursday evenings. The farm is closed Sundays. Pick your own berries in Lee, Sampson, Moore and Randolph counties, a short drive from Fayetteville

Black's Farm

Black's Farm, about a 30-minute drive from Fayetteville's city center at 2242 Lemuel Black Road in Bunnlevel, offers you-pick strawberries at $3.80 per pound and pre-picked berries at $19 per bucket. Gross Farms

Gross Farms, about a 50-minute drive from Fayetteville’s city center at 1606 Pickett Road in Sanford, offers you-pick strawberries at $16 per bucket. Pre-picked berries are $18 per bucket or $6 per quart. Business hours are 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Monday through Saturday, closed Sunday. Barry’s Strawberry Farm

Barry’s Strawberry Farm at 4047 Cox Mill Road in Sanford is about an hour’s drive from Fayetteville’s city center. The farm offers pick-your-own strawberries at $15 per bucket or pre-picked strawberries at $17 per bucket and $5 per quart. Search “Barry’s Strawberry Farm” on Facebook for more information.

White Hill Farms Strawberries & Produce

Millstone Creek Orchards

Millstone Creek Orchards is about a 90-minute drive from Fayetteville’s city center, at 506 Parks Crossroads Church Road in Ramseur. The 84-acre family-owned farm offers pick-your-own produce and flowers throughout the year.

This summer, get blackberries and raspberries straight from the vine in June; blueberries in June and July; sunflowers and peaches in July and August; and grapes in August. apples, pumpkins and pecans are ready to pick in the fall. Farmer’s markets in the Fayetteville area

Dirtbag Farmers Market

Dirtbag Farmers Market at Dirtbag Ales, 5435 Corporative Drive in Hope Mills, hosts dozens of vendors selling meat, baked goods, plants, artisanal items and pet goods from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Sunday through Nov. 17.

Marketgoers can drink Dirtbag’s signature brews, take a yoga and beer class, listen to live music and get a meal from rotating food trucks or on-site restaurant Napkins.

City Market at the Museum

City Market at the Museum is 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday year-round on the ground of the Fayetteville History Museum at 325 Franklin St. The downtown farmers market offers flowers, plants, honey, baked goods, produce and eggs. Occasionally, the market hosts live entertainment and food trucks.

The Downtown Market of Fayetteville

The Downtown Market of Fayetteville is a year-round shop and florist at 325 Blount St. that stocks local dairy, meat, eggs, honey and produce. You can shop in-store or order online at ncmilkman.com for delivery. Business hours are 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday.

The market offers event decor and charcuterie boards, hosts comedy and theatre shows, and offers floral arrangement and butter-making classes.

Pate’s Farm Market

Pate’s Farm Market is open 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. Monday through Saturday at 6411 Raeford Road in Fayetteville. The year-round market stocks an impressive array of produce, from sweet corn and heirloom tomatoes to yellow watermelons and Pinkglow pineapples.

Pate’s has a butcher shop, bakery, hot bar and frozen food section. An entree, two sides and bread are $10.99 at the hot bar, which serves a rotating menu of country staples like meatloaf, macaroni and cheese and baby butter beans from 11 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday.

The on-site nursery is open from 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. Monday through Saturday and Sunday 11 a.m. to 6 p.m.

T & T Farmers Market

T & T Farmers Market is open 9 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. daily at 3755 Cumberland Road in Fayetteville. The market offers fresh produce, especially local greens, berries and root vegetables. T & T also stocks nuts, honey and house-made jams, salsa and syrups.
