Storm chances begin Thursday in North Texas. Greater chance of severe storms Friday
There is a chance of thunderstorms in North Texas on Thursday and a greater chance of severe storms that could affect the Dallas-Fort Worth area on Friday, according to the National Weather Service.
It will be partly sunny and temperatures will be warm with a slight chance of storms Thursday afternoon and evening, mostly north of Interstate 20.
Thunderstorms coming from the west will weaken as they move toward Fort Worth and Dallas. There may be gusty winds and lightning west of Interstate 35 before storms die down as they reach the area, according to the NWS.
A tornado watch is in effect until 11 p.m. for some northern counties, Archer, Clay, Cooke, Grayson, Jack, Montague, Wichita and Wise.

There are higher chances of severe storms moving into Friday afternoon.
Temperatures will be in the mid to high 80s on Friday.
Storms will approach from both the west and northwest of Texas late Friday afternoon with the greatest potential of storms along Interstate 35 for Friday evening.
“Some storms may be severe with large hail and damaging winds,” said the NWS in a Thursday morning forecast. “The tornado threat is pretty low, but an isolated tornado cannot be ruled out.”

Storms will slowly move south and east of the Dallas-Fort Worth area overnight on Friday. The main concerns for late Friday night going into early Saturday morning will be heavy rain and localized flooding.
Severe weather should clear up late Friday night or Saturday morning, moving to the south of Dallas and Fort Worth.
