Steve Smith returns to Piedmont: Gadsden-area high school football predictions for Week 6

It's Week 6 of the high school football in the Gadsden area, and its time to preview and pick some games from around the area.

There are plenty of great games around the Gadsden area, the full schedule can be found here.

Max went 2-1 last week, wrongly picking Gadsden City to beat Hillcrest-Tuscaloosa. For the season, Max is 15-4.

Game of the Week: Westbrook Christian at Piedmont

While this in a big one in Class 3A, Region 6, this is a big one in the bigger picture of Gadsden area high school football. Westbrook Christian coach Steve Smith is making his first trip back to Piedmont as the coach of the Warriors. Smith was the coach at Piedmont for the previous 17 seasons.

This will be a major test for both teams with Piedmont struggling in the post Smith and Hayes' quarterback dynasty eras, as they are 1-4 on the season. Piedmont has not lost to Westbrook Christian yet, only allowing 14 points in five matchups. Westbrook Christian is 3-2 on the year but has struggled in the two losses.

Piedmont has more talent, which should be the deciding factor in this one, but Westbrook Christian should catch up soon.

Max's pick: Piedmont wins 31-21

Southside hosts Leeds

Southside has been rolling over the last few weeks, without Gauge Nesmith who is out for the year with a knee injury. Jordan Bryan had his best game yet last week, throwing for 230 yards and three touchdowns while the rest of the offense has been rolling the whole year. This will be the first major test for the Panthers coming down the line to see how far this squad can go.

Max's pick: Southside wins 45-35

Etowah hosts Oneonta

Etowah has struggled this season, right now sitting at 2-3, but 2-1 in region, like Oneonta after they lost to Cherokee County earlier this season. This game could decide who finishes in second place in the region. Oneonta has Fluff Bothwell, a South Alabama commit, who is the reigning 4A back of the year.

Max's Pick: Oneonta wins 45-20

Collinsville at Fyffe

Fyffe has been the class of what ever AHSAA class and region they have been, most of the time that have been with Collinsville. Fyffe has dominated this Dekalb county rivalry, winning the last 24 games, not losing since 1983.

The fact that Logan Anderson has been regaining form each week, and had his best game last week should be concerning for Collinsville.

Max's Pick: Fyffe wins 55-30
