Los Angeles Lakers point guard Alex Caruso is coming off a solid fourth year with the team that saw him post career-highs in multiple categories. But his latest off-the-court incident has ESPN’s Stephen A. Smith fuming.

Caruso was recently arrested in Texas on marijuana charges. He reportedly possessed drug paraphernalia and less than two ounces of marijuana, but has since been released on bond.

But Caruso must now contend with both his legal issues and potential consequences from the NBA, he’s also getting raked over the coals in the media. And we all know that Stephen A. Smith has a zero tolerance policy for people can’t “stay off the weed.”

On Wednesday’s edition of First Take, Smith called Caruso for his arrest. “Alex Caruso for the Los Angeles Lakers could not stay off the weeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeeed-dah,” he said with a flourish. “I mean damn – another one.”

Alex Caruso played 58 games for the Lakers in the 2020-21 season, averaging 6.4 points, 2.8 assists and a career-high 2.9 rebounds per game. He had one of the best games of his career in a start against the Phoenix Suns, recording 17 points and eight assists in a 123-110 win.

The former Texas A&M star is out of contract with the Lakers heading into the 2021 offseason though. Given what just happened, he may struggle to find a new team.

Unfortunately for Caruso, he’s going to be hard-pressed trying to find any sympathy from Stephen A. Smith if he does.

Will Alex Caruso find a new team before all of his legal issues are resolved?
