All-State golf teams see three-peat and repeat for top honors

KHSAA

Marshall County freshman Trinity Beth earned a remarkable third straight Ms. Kentucky Golf designation while Taylor County senior Luke Coyle repeated as Mr. Kentucky Golf as the Kentucky Golf Coaches Association announced its All-State honors on Thursday.

Joining Coyle and Beth as All-State first-teamers were two Lexington golfers, Grey Goff of Lexington Christian and Kylah Lunsford of Henry Clay. Members of Madison Central’s boys’ and girls’ state champions earned first-team honors, as well — Clay Pendergrass and Warren Thomis from the boys’ team and Elizabeth Eberle, the Region 9 individual champion, from the girls’ team. Frederick Douglass’s Carl Space and Lexington Christian’s C.A. Carter earned second-team honors.

All-State first- and second-team awards are handed out based on points earned in KGCA-approved invitationals, the KGCA All-State Championships and the postseason KHSAA regionals and state championships.

Beth, who began high-level varsity golf as a seventh-grader, won six tournaments her freshman year, including the KHSAA State Championship at Bowling Green Country Club, the KGCA All-State Championship held at two courses near Lexington and her Region 1 Championship.

Coyle claimed four tournament wins this season and held the top spot in the State First Round satellite tournament at Owensboro Country Club. He finished runner-up at the KGCA All-State Championship. Those results helped Coyle edge teammate Seth Smith by five points for the Mr. Golf honor.
