Late starts at some Tacoma-area schools after frigid overnight temps made for icy roads

The Tacoma area was hit with frigid temperatures overnight, and a chance of snow was still in the forecast Thursday morning, leading some school districts to start late due to weather and road conditions.

Tacoma Public Schools start two hours late, including full-day preschool classes. Morning preschool was canceled, and afternoon activities are expected to continue as normal.

Here’s what other school districts in Pierce County are doing Thursday (these are subject to change, so check with your school district):

Bethel School District: Two hours late start.

Clover Park School District: Two hours late start, no half-day, early release or preschool programs, including ECEAP and HeadStart. No out-of-district transportation.

Puyallup School District: Two hours late start, no out-of-district transportation.

Steilacoom School District: Two hours late start, no 9 a.m. preschool. No out of district transportation.

Sumner-Bonney Lake School District: Two hour late start, no preschool, no out-of-district transportation.

University Place School District: Two hour late start, no preschool classes, zero hour or out-of-district transportation. Afternoon activities will continue as normal.

What private schools and child-care centers are doing Feb. 23

Cascade Christian Schools: Delayed schedule. K-Gr. 12 begins at 10:30 a.m. High school doors open at 10 a.m. No Morning KPrep or KPrep Enrichments. Childcare and Cougar Club open at 8:30am. Afternoon events continue as normal.

Life Christian Academy: Late Start: Grades 6-12 start at 10:00am, Full Day Early Childhood to Grade 5 starts at 10:15am. No before school care, before school activities or morning Early Childhood classes.

What colleges and universities are doing Feb. 23

Pacific Lutheran University: Late start. Campus will open at 9:30 a.m., and classes will begin at 9:55 a.m.

Pierce College: Two hour late start. The campus will open at 10 a.m.

Tacoma Community College: Two hour late start. Tacoma and Gig Harbor campuses open at 10:30 a.m.
