Stars of the Week: These athletes had the top performances in basketball, wrestling, track

It was a week for milestones, from 1,000 career points to 100 career wins, and for the area's top wrestlers to compete among the best of the East Coast.

Check out all of top performances in boys and girls high school basketball, track & field and wrestling from last week, and don't forget to vote for the Athletes of the Week. This week's Athlete of the Week polls will run from Tuesday evening until 8 p.m. Thursday.

Joey Bachmann, Faith Christian

The freshman’s varsity career is off to a most impressive start. Bachmann, who has received national recognition, went 6-0 at the Beast of the East, one of wrestling’s most prestigious tournaments in the country, on his way to winning the 106-pound championship at the Delaware tournament. Bachmann defeated Cameron Sontz of Delbarton (Morristown, N.J.) by decision in the championship match. SB Live and MatScout recently listed Bachmann as the top 106-pound wrestler in the country.

Calvin Lachman, Quakertown

The senior took third place in the 285-pound bracket at the Beast of the East. Lachman went 5-1 during the weekend tournament, and secured the 100th win of his high school career. The Lehigh University commit reached the milestone when he defeated his opponent from Virginia in the third-place match by tie-breaker.

Collin Gaj, Quakertown

The junior and defending state champion reached a major milestone at the prestigious Beast of the East tournament. Gaj went 5-1 and finished second in the 150-pound bracket. He earned his 100th career win in the championship semifinals, when he defeated his opponent from Virginia by 9-2 decision. The Virginia Tech commit is the top-ranked wrestler in his weight class in District One, according to PA-Wrestling.com.

Adam Waters, Faith Christian

The sophomore advanced to the 175-pound championship finals at the Beast of the East. He finished 6-1, with three pins, and secured second place after being edged (4-2) in the finals.

Chase Hontz, Faith Christian

Hontz took third place in the 150-pound bracket at the Beast of the East, winning by decision in the third-place match.

Bekhruz Sadriddinov, Council Rock South

The senior Lehigh University commit went 6-2 at the Beast of the East, finishing in fifth place in the 175-pound class.

Daniel Haubert, Palisades

The senior won the 165-pound championship at the Howdy Duncan Classic. Haubert went 5-0 with three by fall, including a 29-second pin.

Dominick Morrison, Hatboro-Horsham

The freshman won the 107-pound title at the Panther Holiday Classic, winning by decision in the championship match.

Chris Dennis, CB West

The sophomore won the 132-pound championship at the Howdy Duncan Classic. Dennis went 5-0 on the weekend, winning by technical fall in the final.

Patrick Kelly, CB West

The junior went 5-0 at the Howdy Duncan Classic, winning the 144-pound championship match by decision.

Maximus Stevenson, Upper Moreland

The junior went 5-0 at the Spartan Duels, which included three wins by fall in the 121-pound bracket.

Nick Ley, Upper Moreland

The junior had a perfect 5-0 showing at the Spartan Duels, winning all five by pin in the 160-pound class.

John Shields, CB South

The 133-pound sophomore went 5-0, winning all five matches by fall, including a 50-second pin, at the the Travis Manion Memorial Duels.

Stars of the Week in Girls Basketball

Sofia Vitucci, Pennsbury

The Falcons senior joined an exclusive club Thursday night when she scored her 1,000th career point. Vitucci needed 13 points to reach the milestone. The packed gym was treated to a vintage Vitucci performance, which included 24 points, eight rebounds, three assists, and an 8-for-9 night at the free throw line. She hit 1,000 points in the second quarter, en route to a 53-27 win over CR South. She is the seventh player to reach the mark for the Falcons girls basketball program.

Reese Zemitis, Neshaminy

The senior and standout for Neshaminy basketball reached a major milestone on Wednesday night. Zemitis, a Bucknell University commit, scored her 1,000th career point against Lansdale Catholic. Zemitis led Neshaminy with 12 points against the defending state champions, as well as five rebounds. Also in the week, she had 24 points against Truman and 23 points vs. CR North (both wins).

Naleli Coplan, Solebury School

The sophomore dropped 33 points in a win against Delaware Valley Friends,

Kitty Randa, Hatboro-Horsham

In her return to the court after an injury, the Hatters lone senior had a game-high 13 points against Norristown, leading the Hatters to their second win of the season. She had 12 points in Hatboro-Horsham's next game, their second straight win, against Quakertown.

Maddy Patel, Hatboro-Horsham

She scored 13 of her game-high 22 points in the first quarter to lead the Hatters to their second straight win with a 56-24 victory over Quakertown.

Lianna Adames, Upper Moreland

The junior scored 15 points in the first half, en route to a game-high 20 points and four 3-pointers, leading the Golden Bears to a decisive win over Pottsgrove. The next day, she scored five of her seven points in the fourth quarter to help UM edge Springfield 41-40, and followed with 15 points in a win against Academy Park.

Halie Staub, William Tennent

Staub poured in 15 of 26 points in the fourth quarter to power the Panthers to a big SOL Freedom win over Cheltenham.

Bailey Balkir, Gwynedd Mercy

The sophomore had 24 of the Monarchs’ 35 points in a 35-31 win over Allentown Central Catholic at the 2023 Keystone Classic.

Ava Pistone, Quakertown

One night after a disappointing OT loss, Pistone powered the Panthers to their first win of the season, tallying 16 points, five steals and three deflections in a 46-21 victory over Upper Perkiomen.

Addyson Davis, Quakertown

Davis had a standout week on defense, posting seven rebounds, two blocks, and five steals in the Panthers first win of the season against Upper Perkiomen. She had nine rebounds, two steals and four deflections, to go along with 10 points, in an OT loss to Wissahickon.

Kelly Donnelly, North Penn

Donnelly erupted for 28 points, draining six 3-pointers along the way, in the Knights win over Souderton.

Chantal van Dongeren, CB East

A staunch defensive effort by the senior, who is also a standout soccer defender, helped the Patriots limit high-scoring Pennridge in a 42-21 win. She also contributed six points.

Jess Lockwood, CB East

The sophomore scored in double digits in three straight games last week, dropping 16 points in two games, and 11 points against then-unbeaten WC Rustin. The Patriots won all three.

Joley Hohman, Pennsbury

The freshman tallied 14 points, six rebounds and three assists in the Falcons win over Bensalem.

Zamiya Lowe, George School

The freshman was dominant on the boards, pulling down 12 rebounds in two consecutive games. She scored 10 points against Pennington to secure a double-double for the 5-0 Cougars.

Allie Esposito, Lansdale Catholic

The freshman had a block party in Saturday’s win over Hun School, blocking four shots and contributing 9 points and 4 rebounds. In the Crusaders' previous game, she had five rebounds and one block in a win.

Lily Milewski, Conwell-Egan

The junior had a pair of 20-plus point games last week, scoring 21 points and grabbing 8 rebounds in a comeback win against Villa Joseph Marie, and against Parkland, she had 23 points and 10 rebounds in a Keystone Classic game.

Alexa Windish, Archbishop Wood

After leading the Vikings to victory at the Kreul Classic in Florida with 18 points, Windish earned MVP honors.

Stars of the Week in Indoor Track & Field

Luke Coleman, Abington

Coleman won the boys 400 meter dash at the Track & Field Coaches Association of Greater Philadelphia meet with his time of 50.56.

Bobby Franklin, La Salle

The freshman won the boys mile run at the TFCA meet, crossing the finish line at 4:34.25.

Ashley Landis, Pennridge

The junior took first place in the girls 400-meter dash at the Delaware Valley Girls Track Coaches Association meet with a time of 59.76.

Riley Rooney, CB South

She won the girls mile run at the DVGTCA meet with her time of 5:09.64, which ranks as the top time in the state in the event this season.

Sabine Muse, Quakertown

The senior took first place in the girls shot put with a mark of 34-2.5 at the DVGTCA meet.

Layla Gentile, Germantown Academy

The junior won the girls shot put in front of her home crowd, delivering a mark of 38-2.5 at the Germantown Academy Shot Put Invitational.

Chase Rosenfeld, William Tennent

The junior finished fifth out of 135 entrants in the boys mile run at the Coaches Hall of Fame Invitational at the Armory in New York. His time of 4:32.98 is the top time in the event for a PA runner this season.

Shane Williams, Holy Ghost

The freshman holds the top time in the state in the boys 45-meter dash after running a 6.14 at the Peddie Winter Scrimmage.

Papakojo Danquah, Holy Ghost

The senior won two events at the Peddie Winter Scrimmage. He finished in first place in the 800-meter run (2:03.89) and the 1,600-meter run (4:46.68).

Jagger Verbit, Faith Christian

The freshman had a pair of 20-point games last week, scoring 24 against Jenkintown and pouring in 25 points against Bethlehem Catholic, both wins. He is averaging over 22 points per game for the 6-1 Lions.

Jaidyn Moffitt, Bensalem

The junior had a game-high 21 points to lead the Owls to a big 53-47 win over Pennsbury in an SOL Patriot division matchup. At the Diane Mosco Shootout, Moffitt tallied 14 points and 15 rebounds in a standout performance against WC Rustin.

Adrien Varella, Holy Ghost

The junior and team captain lifted the Firebirds to an OT victory. Varella scored a game-high 30 points, including four 3-pointers, in an 84-78 win against William Tennent.

Nate Townsend, Neshaminy

Towsend scored 22 points, and contributed eight rebounds and four assists, to lead Neshaminy to a 54-51 OT win against Upper Merion. He had a game-high 17 points in a victory over Truman.

Timmy Rahill, Council Rock South

He scored a game-high 19 points, including five baskets from beyond the arc, to lead the Golden Hawks to a big divisional win over Pennsbury.

Sean Murphy, Upper Moreland

With eight seconds remaining and the Golden Bears trailing by one, Murphy took a pass from Colson Campbell to score the game-winning basket in a 50-49 win over Pottsgrove. He also had 14 points in a victory over Springfield.

Gabe Cerulli, CR South

He led the Golden Hawks with 14 points, six rebounds and four assists in a win over rival CR North.

Antwone George, Conwell-Egan

The junior put up 17 points, eight rebounds and three steals to a win over STEM Civics at the Solebury Tip Off Tournament. He was named tournament MVP for his efforts.

Kenny Lutz, Hatboro-Horsham

With 20 seconds left and the Hatters trailing by a point, Lutz scored the game-winner, driving through the Lansdale Catholic defense for the layup. He finished with a game-high 19 points in the 46-45 victory.

Makhai Anderson, Solebury School

The junior had a monster game, posting 24 points, 10 rebounds and two blocks, in a win over City School.

Bryce Rollerson, Germantown Academy

Rollerson had a trio of high-scoring games last week. He scored 22 points to lead the Patriots to a win over Friends Select, had a game-high 20 points in a one-point loss to Shipley, and saving his best for last, he scored 27 in a win against the Perkiomen School prep team.

Luke Bevilacqua, George School

The junior posted 23 points and 11 rebounds in a 50-39 win over Glenelg Country School.

Josh Reed, Archbishop Wood

The senior Drexel recruit posted 22 points, nine rebounds, four assists and two steals as the Vikings downed Salesanium of Delaware 84-54 at the Diane Mosco Shootout.
