Stars of the Week: These athletes had standout performances in Bucks County area sports

It was a week for milestones, as plenty of student-athletes reached for the stars and reached significant milestones in their high school careers. Check out the top performances in softball, lacrosse, baseball, and volleyball.

Be sure to vote for the Boys Athlete of the Week and Girls Athlete of the Week through Thursday at 8 p.m.

Stars of the Week in Girls Lacrosse:

Mia Popovich, Pennsbury

The senior Siena College commit scored her 100th career goal in the Falcons win over Souderton on Monday. Popovich netted five goals and added an assist in the 17-5 win.

Maddie Thistlewaite, New Hope-Solebury

The senior scored her 200th career goal in Wednesday’s game against Plymouth Whitemarsh. Thistlewaite had three goals in the game, and in a win against Archbishop Wood, she netted eight goals.

Jadyn Bagby, Abington

The junior goalie reached a major milestone in Thursday’s win over North Penn when she recorded her 300th career save. The Ithaca College commit turned away five shots on goal in the 10-5 win.

Quinn Rodoff, North Penn

The sophomore led the way with four goals and two assists in the Knights’ first win of the season, an 11-8 victory over Bensalem. In the Knights’ second straight win, she scored six goals and had three assists in a victory over Neshaminy. The win was also the 200th career victory for Rodoff’s head coach and father, Ken Rodoff.

Mia Fisher, Hatboro-Horsham

She led the way with six goals in a win over William Tennent.

Aida Ierubino, CB West

She forced seven turnovers and had six draw controls and a pair of goals in a well-rounded performance as the Bucks topped CR South.

Lucy Carney, CR North

The Indians’ goalie made two crucial saves in the final minutes to preserve an 8-6 win over North Penn.

Addy Geary, CB South

Geary’s impressive season continued as she scored seven goals in a win over Neshaminy.

Sasha Dobos, Pennsbury

Just minutes after scoring the game-tying goal against Gwynedd Mercy in the fourth quarter, Dobos scored the game-winner for the Falcons.

Leah Verespy, Pennridge

Verespy dished out five assists and scored a pair of goals in the Rams’ win over Souderton.

Sadie Hess, Germantown Academy

The Patriots’ goalie made 14 saves to secure a 10-7 victory over Notre Dame in an Inter-Ac game.

Stars of the Week in Baseball:

Brandon Labs, Faith Christian

He crushed a three-run home run in the Lions’ win over BAL rival Dock Mennonite.

Kendri Beltre, Faith Christian

Beltre went 2-for-4 with a double and four RBIs to lead the Lions to a win over Dock Mennonite in a BAL matchup.

Brady Guzzie, Conwell-Egan

The freshman struck out 12 batters in six innings, giving up just one hit and one walk, in the Eagles 4-1 win over Archbishop Carroll.

Keegan Johnson, Conwell-Egan

After hitting a two-out double in the seventh, the sophomore scored the game-winning run, racing toward home on a wild pitch in a big 4-3 victory over Bonner-Prendergast.

Brady Sell, Archbishop Wood

The sophomore was superb on the mound against defending PCL champion Father Judge, giving up six hits and one earned run while striking out seven in the 4-2 win.

Brady Kelly, Archbishop Wood

The senior went the distance against Archbishop Carroll, giving up just three hits and one earned run while striking out nine in a 3-2 win.

Ben Mascio, Dock Mennonite

He went 3-for-4 with a double and two RBIs against Faith Christian.

Justin Lucas, Holy GhostPrep

The senior was dominant on the mound, giving up four hits and one walk while striking out 10 through five innings in a 7-0 win over CB West.

Amon Chandler, La Salle

The junior went 2-for-3 with two doubles and three RBIs in a 5-3 win over Conwell-Egan.

Jack Hoetzel, Abington

His solid performance on the mound secured the first win of the season for the Ghosts. Hoetzel gave up two hits and no earned runs while striking out nine through six innings in the 7-1 victory over Cheltenham.

Stephen Plefka, Hatboro-Horsham

The senior pitched a complete-game shutout, giving up just two hits and striking out 12 in a 2-0 win over Lower Moreland.

Stone Powell, Neshaminy

He hit a two-run home run, and finished with four RBIs and three runs scored in a win over North Penn.

Colin Lynch, CB East

Lynch hit a pair of triples in the Patriots’ 6-4 win over Bensalem.

Sam Bliss, CB East

The Patriots’ pitcher gave up just three hits through 6⅓ innings to earn the 3-1 win against CR South.

Reece Moody, CB East

Moody had both of the Patriots’ two hits against CR South, including a home run, in the 3-1 win.

Luke Hillegass, CB South

Hillegass pitched a gem for the Titans, giving up a lone hit in a complete-game shutout to earn the 3-0 win against CR South.

Softball Stars of the Week:

Lina Sponheimer, Bensalem

The senior had two hits, two stolen bases and one RBI to lead the Owls to a win over CB East. Against Bristol, Sponheimer recorded her 100th career hit.

Alyssa Tooley, Hatboro-Horsham

The senior achieved a rare feat when she recorded both pitching and hitting milestones in the same game. Against William Tennent, Tooley pitched a complete-game three-hitter while striking out 11, and went 2-for-4 with a double and one RBI. She surpassed 300 career strikeouts and 100 career hits in the win.

Olivia Hughes, Neshaminy

Her second home run of the day was the game-winner, giving Neshaminy a 12-11 victory in the 11th inning over rival Pennsbury. Hughes went 3-for-5 two home runs and four RBIs in a wild game.

Jackie Cobb, Archbishop Wood

Cobb held defending PCL champion Conwell-Egan to just four hits and one unearned run through seven innings in a 5-1 win.

Zahmira Coppola-Miller, Neshaminy

She went 2-for-4 with two RBIs to lead Neshaminy to a win over Catholic League power Archbishop Ryan, and she had two home runs against Pennridge, going 4-for-5 with four RBIs in the win.

Allison Siegfried, Archbishop Wood

She went 2-for-3 with a triple and two RBIs in the Vikings win over Nazareth Academy.

Molly Ambrosius, Neshaminy

The sophomore shut out North Penn for five innings, giving up just three hits while striking out five to earn the 2-0 win against the defending state champions.

Emma Lomker, Gwynedd Mercy

With the game tied in the sixth, Lomker, in her lone at-bat of the game, hit an RBI single to drive in the go-ahead run in a 3-2 win over Lower Moreland.

Maysie Thomson, Neshaminy

The sophomore pitched two scoreless innings to earn the save in Neshaminy’s 2-0 win against North Penn.

Katie LaPlaunt, William Tennent

She struck out 13 while giving up just six hits in the Panthers’ win over Villa Joseph Marie.

Alleigh Waskie, Neshaminy

She had two home runs, including a grand slam, in an extra-innings win over Pennsbury.

Bella Karpovich, Hatboro-Horsham

She pitched a three-hit shutout against Lower Moreland, and also contributed a pair of hits and one RBI in the victory.

Skyler Byrnes, Souderton

The sophomore was nearly perfect through five innings, not allowing a hit or walk against Harry S. Truman, with only a hit batter reaching base. She also hit a two-run home run in the win.

Kaylee Harris, New Hope-Solebury

With the bases loaded and the Lions trailing by a run, Harris hit a bases-clearing triple in the sixth inning that gave New Hope an 8-6 win over William Tennent.

Mary Wilkinson, Quakertown

The senior hit a grand slam in back-to-back games for the Panthers.

Marley Montgomery, Harry S. Truman

She hit a leadoff home run to give the Tigers an early lead against CB East. She finished with three RBIs and three runs scored, and also earned the win in the circle.

Emily Davis, Harry S. Truman

Davis, who was a perfect 3-for-3 at the plate, drove in three runs, stole four bases and scored two runs in a win over CB East.

Lexi Waring, CR South

The Golden Hawks’ ace picked up two wins in two days, pitching a complete-game shutout against CB West, and then holding CB South to five hits and one run the next day.

Bella Nunn, North Penn

The Knights’ ace gave up three hits while striking out 11 in a complete-game shutout against CR North.

Skyler Williams, Quakertown

Williams had a perfect day at the plate, going 4-for-4 with a double and four RBIs in the Panthers win over Wissahickon.

Julia Scannapieco, CR South

The junior's first start in the circle for the Golden Hawks was a two-hit shutout, and she also hit a three-run home run in the 14-0 win.

Stars of the Week in Boys Volleyball:

Reid Miller, CB East

Miller tallied 18 kills, seven digs and three blocks as the Patriots outlast CB West 3-2.

Evan Blank, CB East

He recorded 14 kills and 12 digs to help the Patriots overtake CB West in five sets.

Vraj Patel, Bensalem

Patel posted a career-high 11 kills, along with three blocks, to lead Bensalem to a 3-2 comeback win against Neshaminy.

Veer Patel, Bensalem

Patel was named MVP of the Haverford Invitational after leading the Owls to the tournament championship.

With six seconds remaining in regulation, Landis scored the game-winning goal to give Souderton an 11-10 victory over CB East.

Paul Van Bastelaar, La Salle

He led the way with five goals in the Explorers’ 10-5 win over PCL rival St. Joseph’s Prep.

Peyton Bannak, Souderton

He won 17-of-24 faceoffs and scooped up 9 ground balls in a victory over CB East.

Victor Lasher, Hatboro-Horsham

The junior led the Hatters with three goals, including the go-ahead score, in an 8-7 win over Quakertown.

John Curtis, Pennsbury

He led the Falcons with five goals and an assist in a win over Harry S. Truman.

Kanen Patel and Judson Boyer, CB West

The Bucks’ goalie posted a rare shutout, with Patel recording seven saves and Boyer rejected two shots on goal in a 9-0 win against Neshaminy.

Dom Varacallo, CB South

The Titans’ goalie turned away 17 shots and gave up just two goals in a standout effort in net in a 7-2 win against North Penn.

Brandon Crounce, New Hope-Solebury

The Lions’ lone senior scored his first goal of the season on Senior Night, while winning 10 faceoffs in a 14-0 win against Cheltenham.

Andrew Zazoff, Council Rock North

He scored six goals and assisted on three more to lead the Indians to a 16-12 come-from-behind win against CB South.

Thomas Williams, CB East

Williams scored four times and assisted on three more goals, accounting for all the Patriots’ scores in a 7-5 win against CB West in a game that raised funds for pancreatic cancer research in memory of coach Kevin Renahan.

Billy Houser and Trey Prozzillo, CR South

The two goalies teamed up to post a shutout against William Tennent.
