Fantasy Flight Games, the creators behind hit trading card games like Marvel Champions and the Fallout Shelter board game, have released Star Wars: Unlimited, a new card game set in George Lucas' universe.

The new game will let players take on the role of iconic leaders in the Star Wars universe, who must rally their troops to defeat their opponent's base by drawing from a 50-card deck. Each leader card will affect the battle passively at the start, joining the fray towards the endgame. With matches taking place in either space or on the ground, the dynamics of the battlefield will dictate whether your unit cards will be useful.

The game's first set, called "Sparks of Rebellion", includes over 250 unique cards featuring units, events, and upgrades. Following this, Fantasy Flight will release three new sets annually. Using booster packs, players can build custom decks that must follow specific rules, laid out in its fairly simple 24-page rulebook.

"Our team at Fantasy Flight Games has worked so hard to infuse the essence of the Star Wars saga into this game," said Jim Cartwright, VP of Strategy at Fantasy Flight Games. "It’s action-packed and thematic while also being incredibly accessible to new players. The release of Star Wars: Unlimited signifies not just the culmination of our hard work but also the beginning of an expansive journey in gaming."

"Releasing Star Wars: Unlimited invites players into a whole new galaxy of gaming - it's a transformative moment for our industry," said Julien Sharp, General Manager at Asmodee USA. "This game provides an entirely new way for fans to engage with the Star Wars franchise. With its groundbreaking mechanics and captivating characters, Star Wars: Unlimited is the definitive gaming experience for Star Wars and trading card game enthusiasts."

Fantasy Flight expects the game to garner a huge following, and to host community events and global activations. A cursory glance at the game's rules reveals that it will be fairly easy to pick up, so getting new players on board should not be much of an issue. What can hinder the game's popularity though, is availability. Trading card games can live or die based on whether they're readily available, and it looks like Fantasy Flight Games is up to the challenge with its experience in the field.
