Star Wars star Naomi Ackie has landed another exciting role in her burgeoning filmography as she joins the cast of Benedict Cumberbatch's new movie Morning.

The sci-fi film comes from Justin Kurzel, director of Macbeth and Assassin's Creed, and is set in a near future where a pill has eradicated the need for sleep – along with the help of an artificial sun.

Ackie joins a cast that includes Cumberbatch, Laura Dern, and Noah Jupe.

Specifically, the story will follow Dern's Cathy – an early advocate of a sleepless world who struggles with the anniversary of the death of her husband (Cumberbatch) and tries to reconnect with her son Danny (Jupe).

Ackie, who rose to prominence with her role in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker, recently starred in the Whitney Housten biopic I Wanna Dance With Somebody.

That movie was maligned by critics but her performance was praised. Ackie herself discussed the importance of the biopic, which explored Housten's queer relationships.

"[It] feels like liberation to me," she said. "It’s a part of her story. The love between Robyn and Whitney was so pure and real and dynamic. It moved, it shifted, they never put a name on it. And I just love that. It’s a part of Whitney’s story. It deserves to be told."
