Star Wars' Kelly Marie Tran lands next lead movie role
Star Wars actor Kelly Marie Tran has landed her next lead movie role in psychological thriller Control Freak.
Directed by Shal Ngo, the film follows "a motivational speaker plagued by an uncontrollable itch on her head, who becomes infected with a parasitic demon from her homeland" (via Deadline).
Production on the film has recently wrapped and it will premiere in early 2025.
Tran is set to play protagonist Valerie, while Halloween star Miles Robbins will portray Valerie's husband Robbie.

As well as Tran and Robbins, Control Freak will also star The Sympathizer's Toan Le as Valerie's father Sang and The Joy Luck Club's Kieu Chinh, who will play Valerie's Aunt Thuy.
David Brooks, Arbi Pedrossian and Jenna Cavelle are on board to produce the film, with Shaum S. Sengupta and Miles Alva as executive producers. Hatuey Rodriguez will act as the movie's co-producer.
In 2017, Tran made her big screen debut in Star Wars: The Last Jedi, where she played Resistance maintenance worker Rose Tico. The actor later reprised her role in Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker.

Tran will next be seen in the third and final season of Netflix's fantasy series Sweet Tooth, which will land on the streaming platform in June.
Adapted from Jeff Lemire's comic books of the same name, the series follows half-human hybrid Gus (Christian Convery) as he attempts to find his mother in a post-apocalyptic society.
In a statement last year, showrunner Jim Mickle teased what to expect in the final instalment: "Season 3 is an Arctic story with exciting new adventures and what we hope will be a satisfying conclusion to this epic tale. Gus is going to see a side of the world and humanity that he didn't see in season 1 or 2" (via Netflix's Tudum).
Control Freak doesn't have a release date yet.
