Star Wars Battlefront collection hit with huge backlash as developer responds
Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection developer Aspyr has responded after the remastered bundle launched to a huge backlash this week.
Fans have complained about crashes, bugs, and an unplayable online multiplayer mode in this new version of the PlayStation 2-era classics. PC players are further annoyed at the 62GB file size, when the previous versions of the game on PC are around 12GB combined.
The Classic Collection currently has a 20% user rating on Steam from almost 5,000 reviews from players. It is said to be currently the 9th worst-reviewed game on the storefront.

This writer has played the games on PS5, and found that online matches were not accessible on launch day and accessible but glitchy on the day after. The games also contain a litany of visual and audio mixing errors.
In a statement, a spokesperson for Aspyr said: "We'd like to thank the Battlefront community for their overwhelming support and feedback for the Star Wars Battlefront Classic Collection release.
"At launch, we experienced critical errors with our network infrastructure. The result was incredibly high ping, matchmaking errors, crashes, and servers not appearing in the browser.

"Since launch, we've been working to address these issues and increase network stability, and we will continue our efforts until our network infrastructure is stabilized to prevent further outages. Please continue to report bugs, errors, or unexpected behaviors to our support team via our Request Form."
Aspyr previously landed in hot water over another Star Wars project, a port of Knights of the Old Republic II.
The developer had promised content cut from the original 2005 release would be released as free DLC, but later announced that would no longer be the case, and fans who purchased the game would get a free code for another Star Wars game rather than a refund.
It was later claimed by Aspyr (via IGN) that "a third party objected" to the release and it couldn't do anything about it, but did not name the third party in question.
Star Wars: Battlefront Classic Collection is out now on PS5, PS4, Xbox Series X|S, Xbox One, Nintendo Switch, and PC.
