The Star-Telegram has a new online option to get your news. Here’s what it’s all about

Greetings, Fort Worth Star-Telegram readers! Today I’m excited to announce a better way for you to take full advantage of the news, sports, commentary, and more that you expect from us every day.

You’ll find Edition by the Star-Telegram in the space formerly occupied by the eEdition on star-telegram.com.

While the eEdition is an electronic facsimile of that day’s printed newspaper, Edition is a curated collection of the latest news that leverages the power of the digital world without the limitations of the printed newspaper.

For instance, Edition won’t be bound by the early deadlines of the printed paper, meaning you’ll see more of those Cowboys, TCU and Rangers results that often don’t make the next day in print. (You’ll still want to visit our homepage at star-telegram.com for the latest in breaking news.)

The Edition also incorporates visual journalism, such as videos, photo galleries and interactive graphics, that you can’t get with the eEdition.

Here are some other highlights and new features in the Edition:

• Articles that include links to other stories and additional information, giving you the opportunity to dig deeper and learn more.

• Interactive puzzles and games that allow you to play digitally. (But you can still print out your puzzles, if you would rather do them that way!)

• Enhanced features that make it easier to share your favorite articles with family and friends.

• Intuitive navigation that gives you a pleasing reading experience on all devices - desktop computer, laptop, phone and tablet. The presentation will automatically adjust based on the type of device you’re reading on.

I’ve been in the news business since the pre-internet age and have been part of every step of the digital transformation in the delivery of local news. The Edition is simply the best step I’ve seen yet for those who want a timely, organized news-reading experience on your favorite electronic device.

The Edition will be organized with local news, sports and commentary first, followed by a National Edition that will include all the content you once found in the Extra Extra sections of the eEdition.

If you are a current eEdition reader, you’ll find your way to the Edition the same way: Through a link that arrives in your email inbox each day or by clicking through the navigation drop-down on the top left of the star-telegram.com homepage.

And if you’re reading this and asking, “What the heck is he talking about?” because you’re not familiar with the eEdition, here’s what you can do: Sign up for the Edition Daily Alert email after you click the Newsletters tab at the bottom of our homepage. (You’ll also see our full menu of other newsletters there, which I encourage you to check out.) The Edition is a benefit only available to subscribers.
