Who should be the Standard-Times Athlete of the Week?

With district track meets finished and area track meets this week, plenty of West Texas high school athletes had outstanding performances and were nominated for Standard-Times Athlete of the Week.

The Standard-Times is taking weekly nominations and will release a list of finalists for the High School Athlete of the Week each Tuesday.

Students in all varsity sports are eligible to be nominated. The poll will close at 2 p.m. Friday and the winners will be announced shortly after.

Nominations for next week's award are due by 5 p.m. Monday and can be submitted through email at sports@gosanangelo.com, by messaging the Standard-Times through its Facebook page, or on X (formerly known as Twitter) @sast_sports.

Nominees

Hayven Book, Miles Baseball - He pitched seven innings in a 2-0 win over DeLeon, recording 15 strikeouts and allowing one hit.

Andres Diaz, Central Track - He set a PR (personal record) in the 400-meter run and placed second at the District 2-6A track and field meet with a time of 50.06 seconds.

Gunnar Dillard, Wall Baseball - He went 5 for 7 from the plate with six RBIs, six walks, two home runs, one triple and one run in two games against Ballinger last week.

Payten McGee, Goldthwaite Track - She won the 1,600 and 3,200 events at the District 29-2A meet setting a PR in both with a 5:40.14 and 12:08.81 respectively.

Logan Prater, Eldorado Track - She won the 100, 200, long jump and triple jump events at the District 7-2A track meet, and set PRs in the 200 with a 26.04, an 18-0.50 in the long jump and a 36-11.75 in the triple jump.

Briggs Jones, Wall Track - He won the 100, 200, long jump and triple jump events at the District 6-3A meet and set a PR in the 200 with a 21.92 time.
