St. George Town Square named one of the best public spaces in the country

Town Square in St. George's downtown historic district has been named one of the top public spaces in the country in USA Today’s 10Best Readers' Choice Awards.

USA Today 10Best, the go-to site for reader-voted and editor-recommended travel guides, solicits nominations from an expert panel to highlight the best public spaces across the U.S., then readers vote for their favorites.

Twenty public squares were nominated, and St. George's Town Square was ranked the No. 6 public square in the country. Campus Martius Park in Detroit came in first place.

The public spaces nominated were selected not only for their aesthetic value, but also for their historical significance and communal importance.

Surrounded by some of St. George’s most prominent historic buildings on South Main Street, Town Square features shops, boutiques, restaurants, shade pavilions, and grassy spaces. There are also plenty of opportunities for family fun, as it features a carousel and interactive water features such as a splash pad fountain, a lazy river and a splashing waterfall.

In addition to its opportunities to dine, shop and recreate, Town Square features well-preserved pioneer architecture and landmarks that provide a glimpse into St. George's history.

According to the city of St. George, Town Square also plays hosts to several popular public events, such as First Night, Art Festival, Summer Movies on the Square and more.

  3. Market Square (Knoxville) — Knoxville, Tennessee

  4. Old Town Square — Fort Collins, Colorado

  5. Centerway Square — Corning, New York

  6. St. George Town Square — St. George, Utah

  7. Santa Fe Plaza — Santa Fe, New Mexico

  8. Winterset Town Square — Winterset, Iowa

  9. Jackson Square — New Orleans, Louisiana

  10. Fountain Square — Cincinnati, Ohio
