'Squid Game: The Challenge' Brings the Terrifying Netflix Show to Life

Squid Game is being brought to life. Days after the popular scripted drama was renewed for a second season in 2022, it was announced that Netflix had given the *green light* for Squid Game: The Challenge. "The world's most notorious game becomes reality," the streamer teased.

The new series, inspired by the global hit Squid Game, is being billed as the "biggest reality competition series ever" with contestants competing for a $4.56 million cash prize.

Squid Game took the world by storm with Director Hwang’s captivating story and iconic imagery. We’re grateful for his support as we turn the fictional world into reality in this massive competition and social experiment,” Brandon Riegg, Netflix VP of unscripted and documentary series, said in a press release last year.

“Fans of the drama series are in for a fascinating and unpredictable journey as our 456 real world contestants navigate the biggest competition series ever, full of tension and twists, with the biggest ever cash prize at the end,” Riegg continued.

Before the game begins, here is everything to know about Squid Game: The Challenge, including its release date, how it works and who will compete.
