Spring roundup: Chatham Glenwood baseball routs Springfield in nonconference meeting

BASEBALL

CHATHAM GLENWOOD 14, SPRINGFIELD HIGH 2 (five innings): At Chatham, Cru Erickson and Krayton Reincke each had three hits and three RBIs in a nonconference meeting.

Reincke also homered for the Titans, who improved to 3-1 overall. Mason Marshall supplied two hits and two RBIs while Colten Knoedler had a double and RBI. Andrew Wahlbrink recorded the win in four innings. He gave up just one hit, two walks and two unearned runs with two strikeouts.

Jude Romanotto had the only hit for the Senators, who fell to 2-1.

ATHENS 8, WINCHESTER WEST CENTRAL 7: At Athens, the host Warriors rallied with all eight runs in the bottom of the seventh inning to come away with the nonconference win.

Josh Harris hit the game-tying single with one out while Carson Moscardelli hit the walk-off sacrifice fly to score Kyle Weatherford. Harris finished with two hits and picked up the win on the mound. He went two innings with four hits and two runs allowed.

Davis Ishmael cranked out two doubles for Athens, which improved to 2-2.

JACKSONVILLE ROUTT 14, PAWNEE 7: At Pawnee, Brady Turner and Bryson Mossman each knocked in three runs to help the Rockets win a high-scoring nonconference game.

Pawnee jumped out a 3-0 lead in the second inning before Routt broke out with five runs in the top of the third and added four more in the fourth for a 9-3 lead.

Nolan Turner, Brady Turner and Mossman all doubled while Nolan Turner, Jace Lautemann, Brady Turner and Mossman all had two hits apiece.

Isaac Long walked four times and drove in a pair of runs. Eli Olson got the win on the mount and struck out six over 4 1/3 innings.

Carson Wort led Pawnee with a home run, two hits and three RBIs.

ROCHESTER 8, SOUTHEAST 1: At Eisenhower Park, Parker Lyons and Tyson Binion each had three hits and drove in a run apiece to lead the Rockets to a Central State Eight Conference sweep of the Spartans.

Eli Carlson got the win with nine strikeouts through five innings pitched. He allowed two hits, one run — unearned — and he walked one.

Parker Lyons doubled for the Rockets (6-0 overall, 2-0 CS8) while Jett Myren and Jorey Myren each tripled. Teammate Jack Swaney was 2-for-4 with two RBIs.

Carter Hood, Jaxon Cook and Logan Daberkow had Southeast’s three hits.

JACKSONVILLE 10, HARDIN CALHOUN 0 (five innings): At Jacksonville, Cody Fry surrendered just two hits and three walks in the nonconference win.

He wound up with five strikeouts in five innings. Fry and Hayden Hicks each had a double at the plate as well. Hicks finished with two hits and an RBI.

Wes Klocke recorded the only two hits for Calhoun.

SACRED HEART-GRIFFIN 17, CHAMPAIGN CENTRAL 3 (five innings): At Comstock Field, Jake Kepler went 4-for-4 at the plate with three runs and an RBI in the nonconference win. That included two doubles.

Tye Springer and Will Lance each had two hits and two RBIs with a run. Charlie Linderman doubled and scored twice while Chris Link had a triple with two runs and two RBIs.

Grant Blackburn tossed four innings with two hits, four walks and three runs (none earned) allowed.

GREENFIELD/NORTHWESTERN 9, CARLINVILLE 1: At Carlinville, Brayden Roberts gave up just four hits and two walks in 5 1/3 innings to earn the nonconference win.

Brody Reif went 4-for-5 with two RBIs while Garrett Costello, Talon Albrecht, Wyatt Stuart and Kohen Vetter each had two hits for the Tigers, including two doubles from Vetter.

Bryce Widner and Noah Convery each had a double for the Cavaliers.

LITCHFIELD 16, LANPHIER 0 (five innings): At Robin Roberts Stadium, Carson Saathoff went 3-for-3 with five runs and two RBIs in the nonconference win, including a double.

Mathew Bywater and Drake Gasperson each had a double and two hits. Gasperson and Titan Hires had three RBIs apiece. Bywater, who also scored three runs, picked up the win three innings with seven strikeouts.

STAUNTON 15, DUPO 2 (five innings): At Staunton, the Bulldogs jumped to an 8-0 lead after the first inning.

Luke Goldasich and Zane Anderson each delivered two hits and three RBIs while Ethan Sharp had two hits and three runs, including a double. Carter Legendre had two hits, two RBIs and two runs.

Drake Billings won in five innings. He struck out five and gave up three hits, one walk and two unearned runs.

CANTON 6, BEARDSTOWN 2: At Beardstown, Zach Meyer went 2-for-3 and led Beardstown with two RBIs in a nonconference loss. Teammate Zach DeSollar had two stolen bases for the Tigers.

WILLIAMSVILLE 18, ARGENTA-OREANA 1 (four innings): At Williamsville, No. 9 hitter and catcher Joshua Cates went 2-for-2 with a double and three RBIs as the Bullets trounced their nonconference opponent.

Brayden Saling was 2-for-2 with two RBIs and tripled. He was one of four Bullets to record a three-bagger, along with Joe Catalano, Kyle Carter and Easton Blankenship.

NOKOMIS 17, MULBERRY GROVE 2: At Mulberry Grove, Conner Wilson was 2-for-4 with three RBIs in Nokomis’ nonconference win.

Nolan Herpstreith went 2-for-3 with an RBI while Drake Taylor, Levi German, Izaak Doyen and Garrett Engelman all drove in two runs apiece for Nokomis.

Bryce Gillock pitched four innings, struck out nine and earned the victory.

SOFTBALL

SACRED HEART-GRIFFIN 2, MAROA-FORSYTH 1: At Maroa, the Cyclones plated two runs in the top of the seventh inning and Kenzie Wieland kept the Trojans off the board in the bottom half of the inning as SHG pulled out a dramatic nonconference win.

Lucy Wegner led off the top of the seventh with a double before Ileana Stremsterfer put down a sac bunt to move Wegner to third base. Matilda Ratcliffe then walked to give SHG runners at the corners with one out.

Felicity Keller hit an infield single to score Wegner for the tying run as Ratcliffe scampered to third. With two outs, Ratcliffe scored the go-ahead run on a passed ball.

Wieland struck out 17 Trojans in her complete-game win. She allowed four walks, three hits and one unearned run.

SPRINGFIELD HIGH 4, DECATUR ST. TERESA 1: At the University of Illinois Springfield softball field No. 2, senior Megan Bullock was 3-for-3 with an RBI and a run scored to help the Senators to a nonconference victory.

Pitcher Mia Volpert was 2-for-4 with a solo home run. She also struck out 16 Bulldogs and allowed four hits in the complete-game win. St. Teresa was shutout over the first six innings.

BUFFALO TRI-CITY/NIANTIC SANGAMON VALLEY 19, RIVERTON 0 (4 innings): At Riverton, Scout Tschantz and Kenzie Chandler each had two hits and scored three runs apiece to help the Tornadoes wallop the Hawks in nonconference action.

Kamryn Sturdy struck out five and allowed one hit in two innings pitched. She also tripled, was hit by three pitches and drove in three runs.

The Tornadoes jumped out to a 12-0 lead in the first inning.

NORMAL WEST 8, ROCHESTER 7: At Normal, Samantha Cory was 3-for-3 with two RBIs in the Rockets’ nonconference loss.

The Rockets pulled within a run with a four-run top of the seventh but couldn’t plate the tying run.

Eleanor Schudel drove in a pair of runs and scored three times for Rochester while leadoff hitter Raegan Rezba doubled, scored and knocked in a run.

PETERSBURG PORTA/A-C CENTRAL 20, LANPHIER 1 (four innings): At Lawless Park, Allison Vogel was 2-for-2 with a double, a home run, three RBIs and three runs scored as the Bluejays routed the Lions in a nonconference meeting.

Greta Butler was 3-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored from the Bluejays’ No. 8 spot in the lineup.

Gabbie Branson twirled a gem in four innings with nine strikeouts against one hit, one walk and one unearned run.

PAYSON-SEYMOUR 14, BEARDSTOWN 3 (five innings): At Beardstown, Vanessa Nunez supplied two hits but took the loss in 2 1/3 innings for the Tigers.

Nunez gave up seven hits, six walks and seven earned runs. Beardstown also totaled nine errors in the loss. Samantha Hugenberg and Grace Klitz each had two hits for Payson.

STAUNTON 11, DUPO 1 (five innings): At Staunton, Evin Frank went 3-for-3 with an RBI and Chloe Reynolds knocked in three runs to lead the Bulldogs to a nonconference win.

Taylor Nolan and Kylie Lucykow each doubled for Staunton.

Gianna Bianco allowed two hits and one unearned run in the complete-game win.

AUBURN 15, JACKSONVILLE ROUTT 5 (five innings): At Auburn, the Trojans scored 10 runs in the bottom of the first and never looked back thanks to two RBIs from each Meena Taylor, Taylor Patterson, Addison Wheatley, Kianna McGraw and Skylar Meats.

Meats also doubled for the Trojans and went 2-for-2 from the No. 9 spot in the lineup.

Sydney Rabideau struck out eight and gave up four hits and five unearned runs to get the complete-game victory.

GILLESPIE 13, NOKOMIS 3 (five innings): At Gillespie, pitcher Paxton Reid went 3-for-4 and drove home four runs to lead the Miners in a nonconference win.

Reid, who doubled, struck out five and allowed seven hits, three runs — one earned — and no walks. Lauren Bertagnolli and Addi Cox both drove in a pair of runs.

CARLINVILLE 3, PLEASANT PLAINS 0: At Carlinville, Hannah Gibson threw a complete game with 15 strikeouts and allowed just one hit and four walks in the nonconference win.

She also reeled off a double with two RBIs. Isabella Tiburzi delivered two hits and a run, including a triple.

Freshman pitcher Kayden Skinner took the loss in six innings. She ceded six hits, three walks and three runs with two Ks. Delaina Manuel had the only hit for the Cardinals.

PITTSFIELD 14, NEW BERLIN 1 (five innings): At New Berlin, Ashlee Brown hit a solo home run to center field in the Pretzels’ nonconference loss. Carlie Smith and Riley Holloway had one hit apiece for New Berlin.

PAWNEE 10, PANA 0: At Pana, Amber Bradbury, Ava Rodriguez and Makenna Corrie all went 3-for-4 as Pawnee banged out 16 hits in a nonconference shutout.

Bradbury and Rodriguez each had two RBIs and Rodriguez tripled. Kalee Hinds doubled for Pawnee.

Haley Maretti pitched six innings, struck out 10, allowed eight hits and three walks.

Kennedy Bowker was 3-for-4 for Pana.
