South Carolina updated its spring roster over the weekend — and it includes a number of major pieces for the 2023 squad.

All nine transfers the Gamecocks signed during the first transfer portal window that closed on Jan. 18 have been added to the roster. That includes Memphis receiver Eddie Lewis, who was among the last of those players to commit to South Carolina, and ex-Tennessee player DeAngelo Gibbs.

Here’s the full list of transfers:

1 — Trey Knox, TE (Arkansas)

6 — Joshua Simon, TE (Western Kentucky)

14 — Jaron Willis, LB (Ole Miss)

17 — DeAngelo Gibbs, DB (Tennessee)

24 — Mario Anderson, RB (Newberry)

69 — Nick Gargiulo, OL (Yale)

76 — Sidney Fugar, OL (Western Illinois)

84 — Nick Elksnis, TE (Florida)

85 — Eddie Lewis, WR (Memphis)

South Carolina has also removed freshmen Monteque Rhames, Cameron Upshaw and Anthony Rose from the roster following an incident earlier this month. All three players had previously been suspended from the team.

Rhames, a four-star 2023 defensive end who moved to campus in January, was arrested on charges of “carrying weapons on school property” and obstructing justice, according to Richland County online court records. An incident report provided by USC showed campus police responded to a “housing complaint” at the 650 Lincoln dorms at 9:20 p.m. Jan. 25.

The incident report references a “weapon law violations” and lists a rifle as the weapon. The report includes Rhames, Rose and an unnamed juvenile as suspects in the alleged incident — but there are no mentions of charges or arrests.

“Our student-athletes know what is expected of them,” head coach Shane Beamer said in a statement provided at the time. “They know that both the University and the football program will hold them accountable for their actions and decisions.”
