Spring fever: As the season winds down, Bucks County athletes delivered best performances

The regular season is winding down, and the race toward the playoffs is on. Whether they are looking to secure a playoff spot, or finish the season on a high note, these student-athletes put their teams in great position with big wins last week. Check out the top performances in softball, lacrosse, baseball, track and volleyball.

Be sure to vote for the Boys Athlete of the Week and Girls Athlete of the Week beginning Tuesday evening, through Thursday at 8 p.m.

Top Performances in Softball:

Megan Klein, Bensalem

The senior slugger secured her spot in school history on Thursday when she broke a 24-year-old record. On Thursday, the shortstop went 3-for-5 and recorded her 126th career hit, breaking the school record of 125 set in 1990 by Karen Sock.

Hailey Helmstetter, CB East

With the game tied in the bottom of the seventh, Helmstetter stepped to the plate and hit a game-winning double, scoring the runner from second, in a 4-3 victory over Lansdale Catholic.

Lexi Waring, CR South

The junior standout pitched a complete-game shutout, holding Easton to a single hit and two walks, while striking out 15 batters in the 3-0 win. She also picked up a 7-6 victory against Neshaminy, thanks to some seventh-inning heroics at the plate. Leading off the inning with a walk, Waring later drove in the game-winning run on a two-run single, completing a seven-run seventh for the Golden Hawks.

Jackie Cobb, Archbishop Wood

The Vikings’ pitcher gave up just two hits and no walks while striking out seven in a 10-0 win over Lansdale Catholic.

Karlye Teman, Palisades

The junior ace tossed a complete-game shutout, striking out 14 along the way, while giving up three hits and one walk in a win over South Lehigh. She also had a big game at the plate against Upper Perkiomen, going 3-for-3 with two doubles and four RBIs in the victory.

Catie Russo, Palisades

The sophomore went 3-for-5 with triple, double and single in a win over Wilson.

Luciana Snyder, Bristol

The freshman had an afternoon to remember in the Warriors’ win against Delco Christian, driving in seven runs on a 5-for-5 day at the plate. She also had two RBIs in an impressive 7-5 win over Upper Dublin, and against Faith Christian, she was 3-for-3 with a triple and four RBIs in the victory.

Peyton McClain, Bristol

The freshman had 10 RBIs in two games last week, driving in five runs in wins against both Delco Christian and Faith Christian. She also had three doubles.

Aubrey Gahman, Dock Mennonite

She was 2-for-2 with a home run and four RBIs against Morrisville, and also pitched three scoreless innings, striking out eight in the win. Against Calvary Christian, Gahman went 3-for-4 with a triple, double and four RBIs, while giving up three hits and striking out 13 in a five-inning shutout victory.

Alexa Weiss, Gwynedd Mercy

The senior had a huge day at the plate against Little Flower, crushing two home runs and a triple, driving in six runs in the win. She was 2-for-4 with a double and two RBIs against Dock Mennonite.

Olivia Schlindwein, CR North

The sophomore had another standout showing in the circle, giving up four hits and one walk while striking out five in a 12-2 win against top Catholic League team Archbishop Ryan.

Haley Edelman, CR North

Edelman set the tone early, crushing a first-inning grand slam as CR North defeated Truman 12-5.

Sierra Klein, CR North

In two games last week, Klein accumulated six RBIs, going 5-for-6, including a home run and a double, and scoring five runs in wins against Archbishop Ryan and Bensalem.

Emily Davis, Harry S. Truman

She was 3-for-3 with a pair of doubles and three RBIs in the Tigers' win over Nazareth Academy.

Ava Storlazzi, Pennsbury

The Falcons’ leadoff hitter went 3-for-5 with a double and three stolen bases, and scored four runs in a win over CB East.

Rylie O’Toole, William Tennent

With two outs in the bottom of the seventh of a tied game, O’Toole stepped to the plate and hit a walk-off RBI single to give the Panthers a 12-11 win over Archbishop Ryan.

Sydney Tuefel, William Tennent

Her second home run of the day tied the game in the bottom of the seventh, as the Panthers went on to win 12-11 over Archbishop Ryan. She finished with five RBIs.

Sienna Lawson, CB West

Against rival CB East, Lawson went four scoreless innings without giving up a hit and striking out seven, and was 2-for-3 with three RBIs at the plate in the win.

Morgan Leonhauser, Neshaminy

She went 4-for-5 with a home run and drove in three runs in Neshaminy’s 11-9 win over rival Pennsbury.

Morgan Volgraf, Neshaminy

Two of her three hits were doubles, and Volgraf drove in four runs, including the game-winner in the ninth inning, in a 12-11 win over CB South. She had another big game against Pennsbury, with two hits and four RBIs in the win.

Zahmira Coppola-Miller, Neshaminy

In four games last week, she hit two home runs and a triple, driving in nine runs.

Deanna Porter, Conwell-Egan

Against Catholic League rival Cardinal O’Hara, Porter drove in four runs, going a perfect 4-for-4 at the plate in the win. She also had two RBIs in a 6-0 victory against Bonner-Prendergast.

Dagny Mobley, New Hope-Solebury

The freshman pitcher had three wins in the circle last week. In those three games, Mobley gave up two hits, three walks and no earned runs, while striking out 25 in 10 innings.

Mary Wilkinson, Quakertown

She drove in seven runs on a double and a home run in the Panthers' 10-5 win over Neshaminy.

Top Performances in Girls Lacrosse:

Mia Popovich, Pennsbury

Her third goal of the game was the game-winner, giving the Falcons a 12-11 overtime victory against CB East.

Ava Fantaskey, Pennridge

The senior led the way with five goals, which included the 100th of her career, in a 21-10 win over CB South.

Lexi Ryan, Bensalem

She scored a game-high five goals in the Owls’ 14-9 win over Souderton.

Lucia Smigiel, Germantown Academy

She scored six goals and assisted on one more in the Patriots’ 16-3 victory over Gwynedd Mercy.

Brooke Cenci, CB South

Her five goals powered a comeback win as the Titans scored six goals in the second half to prevail 10-8 over North Penn.

Addi Hurley, Upper Moreland

The goalie recorded eight saves and held Abington to one second-half goal to secure a 9-8 win for the Golden Bears.

Kyle Tuthill, Conwell-Egan

The senior was spectacular on the mound against league rival Lansdale Catholic, giving up one hit and one walk while striking out 11 in a complete-game effort to secure a 1-0 win.

Braydon Janzer, Conwell-Egan

Janzer had one of the Eagles’ five hits against Lansdale Catholic, and drove in the game-winning run in the 1-0 victory.

Justin Lucas, Holy GhostPrep

The senior went the distance against CR South, giving up just three hits and an unearned run while striking out four in the win.

Edwin Rosado, Holy Ghost

The sophomore had two hits, drove in two runs, scored twice and stole a pair of bases in the Firebirds’ win over Germantown Academy.

Ben Farley, North Penn

The senior had a double, triple and five RBIs in an 8-3 win over Pennridge.

Nick Palovich, North Penn

His complete-game effort on the mound secured a 6-1 win for the Knights over CB West. Palovich gave up just four hits and one walk, while striking out 10 batters.

John Whelan, New Hope-Solebury

Whelan was solid on the mound to secure the Lions’ first win in their last 10 games, giving up six hits while striking out four through 5⅔ innings in a 3-2 win over Tennent.

Connor Landau, Conwell-Egan

The sophomore had two RBIs in the Eagles’ 3-1 win over Archbishop Wood.

Jared Kligerman, Neshaminy

The pitcher gave up four hits and no walks while striking out six through 6⅔ innings in an efficient 72-pitch outing to earn the 7-1 win over Upper Dublin.

Damian Frayne, CB East

Frayne held rival CB South to three hits and two walks, while striking out 11 batters, in a complete-game 5-1 win for the Patriots.

Brandon Lall, Neshaminy

The sophomore went 4-for-4 and scored two runs, including the game-winner in the bottom of the ninth, against CR South. Lall led off the ninth inning with a single and scored on a bunt by Chase Bonner for the 7-6 walk-off win.

Matt Marsten, Quakertown

The Panthers’ pitcher gave up just one hit and an unearned run while striking out four in a 2-1 win over Plymouth-Whitemarsh.

Jamie O’Neill, Hatboro-Horsham

O’Neill tossed a five-hit shutout to secure the Hatters’ 1-0 win against Abington.

Anthony Trommer, Neshaminy

Trommer put on a show for the crowd at Trenton Thunder Ballpark, going 3-for-4 with a triple and a double, three RBIs and three runs scored in a win over Harry S. Truman.

Jude Hamilton, CR North

Hamilton pitched a complete-game shutout, giving up just four hits and a lone walk while striking out eight in a 6-0 win over Bensalem.

Casey Nealon, La Salle

He went 2-for-2 with a home run and five RBIs in a victory over Archbishop Ryan.

Cole Guy, Bristol

The sophomore cracked a home run and drove in five runs in the Warriors’ win over Tacony Charter.

Grayson Weikel, Faith Christian

The senior hit his eighth home run of the season in undefeated Faith's 14-1 BAL victory over MaST Charter.

Seamus Crandley, Holy Ghost

The Firebirds’ goalie recorded 18 saves in an impressive outing to secure a 6-3 win over Wissahickon.

Paul Van Bastelaar, La Salle

He led the way with six goals and one assist in the Explorers’ win over Archbishop Wood, and contributed four goals and two assists in a victory over Archbishop Ryan. On Saturday, he scored the game-winner in overtime against Radnor, finishing with two goals and two assists.

Matt Miller, Abington

Miller scored five goals and dished out an assist to power the Ghosts to an SOL American Conference win over Upper Moreland.

Tommy Bryson, Harry S. Truman

The Tigers’ goalie turned away 14 shots on goal against CB East and recorded his 800th career save.

Jason Boyd, CR North

The goalie made nine saves and posted a fourth-quarter shutout to help the Indians secure an 8-7 comeback win against North Penn.

Anthony Depedro, CB South

He dished out seven assists, scored two goals of his own, and scooped up six ground balls in the Titans’ 14-8 win over Pennsbury.

Matt Jacobsen, CB West

The senior recorded his 200th career point in the Bucks’ 13-8 win over Pennridge. Jacobsen had three goals and two assists, and won 15-of-20 faceoffs in the victory. On Tuesday, the University of Richmond commit won his 700th faceoff, going 7-for-12 in a win over CR South.

Matthew Seiler, Pennridge

He scored his 100th career goal against CB West on Tuesday.

Taylor Parker, New Hope Solebury

The freshman scored four goals and assisted on two more in the Lions’ win over George School.

Top Performances in Boys Volleyball:

He led the Titans’ offense with 24 kills in a 3-0 win against Souderton.

Gavin Roth, CB South

The junior handed out an impressive 44 assists in the Titans’ 3-0 sweep of Souderton.

Top Girls Track & Field Performances:

Emma Vogt, Villa Joseph Marie

The junior won both the 100-meter dash (12.72) and the 200-meter dash (26.29), posting season-best times in both, at the AACA league meet.

Ava Wilson, Bensalem

The junior won the girls 300-meter hurdles (46.23) and finished second in the 200-meter dash (26.96) at the Neshaminy Invitational.

Tammy Ellis, Bristol

The speedy freshman won two events at the Neshaminy Invitational, taking first place in the girls 100-meter dash (12.70) and the 200-meter dash (26.6), setting season-best times in both.

Gretchen German, Dock Mennonite

The sophomore had a great showing at the Neshaminy Invitational, taking first place in the girls 800-meter run (2:34.95) and the 1,600-meter run (5:46.27). She also finished seventh in the javelin.

Kiera Banks, Conwell-Egan

The senior took first place in the girls javelin, with an impressive mark of 102-10, and finished second in the long jump (15-7.5) at the Neshaminy Invitational.
