Spring All-County: Which girls tennis stars had the best seasons in Palm Beach County?

Welcome to the 2024 Palm Beach Post High School Sports Awards, where we will be announcing nominations and winners for Player of the Year in each of our sports.

It's time to meet The Palm Beach Post's girls tennis All-County team!

At the live show for this spring's Palm Beach County High School Sports Awards on Wednesday, June 5, at the Palm Beach County Convention Center, the Player of the Year will be announced along with the teams, coaches, and athletes of the year, as well as a Courage Award winner. Player of the Year Nominees

Lexi Cleveland, St. Andrew’s

Lexi Cleveland, St. Andrew's

Cleveland earned the state runner-up title as an individual standout on a talented St. Andrew's squad this year. Hailed as a four-star prospect by the Tennis Recruiting Network, Cleveland makes her debut on The Post's All-County team for plenty of reasons after a dominant season. She posted a 14-1 record in singles, with her only loss coming to the state champion, and a 12-3 record in doubles.

Jessica Popsecu, sophomore, Spanish River

Jessica Popsecu, Spanish River tennis

The talented sophomore led Spanish River this year, playing a big role in the Sharks finishing the season as regional semifinalists after a 7-4 record. Popsecu, who was a state finalist in singles after securing a district title, is listed by the Tennis Recruiting Network as a three-star prospect. She was 9-2 in matches this year.

Logan Ray, junior, Cardinal Newman

Ray played second singles and then eventually first singles due to an injury on a talented Cardinal Newman squad. She exceeded at first doubles for the Crusaders and is making her debut on The Post's All-County team as a junior.

Gianna Panaggio, senior, Jupiter

Panaggio was a state qualifier and reached the quarterfinals in singles, but was dominant with sister partner Siany Panaggio in doubles, where they finished as state semifinalists. Gianna is listed as a three-star prospect by the Tennis Recruiting Network.

The younger of the two Panaggio sisters, Siany qualified for states in doubles with her sister partner, where they advanced to the state semifinals to represent the Warriors tennis program. Siany is listed as a three-star prospect by the Tennis Recruiting Network.

Jackie Daynovsky, senior, American Heritage-Delray

Daynovsky teamed up with Kristina Despotuli to deliver an exciting win in the semifinals against MAST Academy in the state championship, and Daynovsky played her part in a line win to help Heritage seal the Class 2A title. Daynovsky is listed as a three-star prospect by the Tennis Recruiting Network.

Maria Navarro, freshman, Benjamin

Navarro finished the season with a 22-4 record. Lauded as a great teammate and leader by head coach Leon Olivier, she was a state title finalist in both singles and doubles. Navarro is listed by the Tennis Recruiting Network as a five-star prospect. It was a dynamic start to her high school career.

Naomi Williams, junior, St. Andrew’s

Naomi Williams was a state finalist in doubles for state runner-up St. Andrew's. Though the Scots couldn't quite find revenge against True North, it wasn't for lack of trying, as Williams teamed with Lexi Cleveland to wreak havoc on the competition up until the finals. Williams is listed as a three-star prospect by the Tennis Recruiting Network and posted a 20-6 record this season, including playoffs.

Sandra Tolli, junior, Grandview Prep

Playing in a very tough district and as part of the Evert Academy, Tolli led Grandview Prep to a district tournament sudden-death playoff victory over St. John Paul II this season.

Milana Ronert, freshman, Benjamin

Ronert was a state runner-up in the 1A overall girls doubles championship bracket, representing Benjamin by teaming up with Maria Navarro to storm to the finals. Though they took the first set against True North, their opponents took the next two sets to emerge victorious. Lauded as a three-star prospect by the Tennis Recruiting Network, Ronert has certainly started off her high school career with a bang.

Kristina Despotuli, junior, American Heritage-Delray

Teaming up with doubles partner Jackie Daynovsky, Despotuli and company posted a back-and-forth semifinal victory over MAST Academy at states, lauded by many as one of the best matchups of the whole tournament. The senior, listed as a three-star prospect by the Tennis Recruiting Network, helped Heritage-Delray to back-to-back Class 2A state titles.

Keira Uter, junior, Wellington

Uter led a singles lineup and first doubles for the Wolverines this year that secured revenge against Jupiter. After losing to the Warriors in the district championship, Uter and the Wolverines turned the tables on Jupiter at regionals, and Uter herself flipped the script on fellow All-County team member Gianna Panaggio with a regionals victory.

Coach of the Year

Under Schleifer's watch, the Stallions won the Class 1A state championship. Heritage-Delray proved that an average regular season certainly isn't cause to underestimate the Stallions, who cruised through the postseason to claim the state hardware.
