Sexual assault lawsuit against Jerry Jones revived after appeal, likely headed for trial

A lawsuit against Jerry Jones will move forward after all.

A Texas appellate court revived a lawsuit filed against the Dallas Cowboys owner on Monday that accused him of sexually assaulting a woman in 2018, according to the Dallas Morning News.

The lawsuit was originally filed in 2020. The woman, identified as J.G. in the lawsuit, said Jones “kissed her on the mouth and forcibly grabbed her without her consent” after a game in a suite at AT&T Stadium in 2018. Jones has denied those accusations and called them “malicious and hurtful.”

Jones’ team argued initially that more information was needed in order for the lawsuit to be valid. J.G. was initially listed as “Jane Doe” in the initial lawsuit. She has since adjusted her name to J.G., and said the alleged incident occurred in the Tom Landry Room at AT&T Stadium.

The case was dismissed last year after a judge said the woman failed to comply with an order to provide more information both about herself and the details of her allegation. After filing an appeal, however, the appellate court said the woman “made a good faith effort to amend her pleadings.” They ruled the initial court “abused its discretion in dismissing the claims.”

J.G. said the incident with Jones caused her severe injuries, emotional distress and psychological pain and suffering. The lawsuit was initially filed against Jones and the Cowboys, as she believes the team and officials “knew or should have known” of Jones’ alleged behavior.

The case will now return to Dallas County district court and will likely head to trial in the coming months.

The lawsuit is one of two that Jones is dealing with. A judge ordered him to take a paternity test in December after a 26-year-old woman sued him claiming he is her biological father.
