Police: Man killed near Birmingham in fight over Alabama-Texas A&M football game

A fight over a football game turned deadly in Alabama on Saturday when a man was shot and killed outside of a watch party.

Fans gathered at a home in the Birmingham suburb of Bessemer for Saturday's SEC game between No. 1 Alabama and Texas A&M. Bessemer Police Lt. Christian Clemons said that two men got into an argument about which team was better near the end of Texas A&M's upset victory, AL.com reports.

The party's host asked the men to leave, and they took the argument outside. Shots were fired, and 27-year-old Kealand Amad Pickens suffered multiple gunshot wounds to his torso. Pickens was transported to the UAB hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 3:23 a.m. Sunday.

“It’s another case of resorting to violence to handle differences,” Clemons said.

The suspected shooter fled the scene before police arrived. Police know the suspect's identity, but didn't share it with media.

Alabama's loss on Saturday was its first since 2019.
