Knicks' Julius Randle fined $15,000 for throwing ball into stands after win over Celtics

Julius Randle’s celebration is going to cost him.

The NBA announced on Thursday that it had fined the New York Knicks forward $15,000 for throwing the ball into the stands after their 138-134 double-overtime win against the Boston Celtics on Wednesday.

Randle, after grabbing the final rebound of the game in the last few seconds, threw the ball down the court and into the stands behind the basket at Madison Square Garden in celebration.

Randle nearly had a triple-double in the season-opening win. He finished with 35 points, eight rebounds and nine assists.

That, he said after the win, really took it out of him.

“I can’t wait to go home and lay in the bed, I swear,” he said. “I don’t even know if I’m hungry enough to eat, I’m so tired.”

The Knicks were leading by three in the final seconds of regulation before Marcus Smart hit a 3-pointer from the wing to send it into the extra period.

Neither team scored in the final 2:57 of the first overtime period, which sent the game into another. The Knicks finally closed it out with an Evan Fournier 3-pointer and a Derrick Rose jumper to seal the four-point win.
