Four-time All-Star Kemba Walker is coming home. After two seasons in Boston, the 10-year vet signed with the Knicks on August 11th. Walker grew up in the Bronx and went to high school at Rice in Harlem.

Walker burst onto the national scene during UConn’s legendary 2011 Big East Tournament title run. Kemba lit up Madison Square Garden before carrying the Huskies all the way to an unexpected NCAA Championship.

On Tuesday, Walker returned to MSG to discuss his return to the Big Apple. Kemba’s excitement was palpable throughout his first media appearance as a Knick.

“This feeling has been like no other,” he said. “I’m randomly getting goosebumps.”

Walker moves to New York after two up-and-down seasons with the Celtics. While he put up strong offensive stats, Kemba’s Boston tenure was plagued by injury. He played 56 games in 2019 and 43 last season.

The upstart Knicks, coming off their first playoff appearance in almost a decade, will pay Walker about $18 million over two seasons. A healthy Kemba could make the contract look like a bargain. Walker will be an unrestricted free agent in 2023.

Kemba will compete for backcourt minutes with, among others, Derrick Rose, Immanuel Quickley and former Boston teammate Evan Fournier. He is sure to receive a warm welcome this fall at the Garden.
