Mike Krzyzewski doesn't coach 2nd half of wild Duke win over Wake Forest: 'Not feeling well'

Duke men's basketball coach Mike Krzyzewski didn't emerge from the locker room after halftime during Tuesday's dramatic win over Wake Forest.

Assistant and head coach in waiting Jon Scheyer took over the Blue Devils bench in the second half. Duke announced during the first media time out of the half that Krzyzewski "is not feeling well" and wouldn't return to the game.

Duke didn't immediately provide further details on his condition. The Athletic's Brendan Marks reported prior to Duke's announcement that Krzyzewski had "been attended to by Duke trainers several times already tonight."

Duke wins in wild finish

Duke led, 42-33 at halftime, but Wake Forest rallied to tie the game at 74-74 with 18 seconds remaining. Sophomore center Mark Williams secured the Duke victory with a last-second putback dunk that almost didn't count.

Freshman forward Paolo Banchero attempted to give Duke the lead with a late driving layup attempt. But it bounced off the rim before Williams corralled the rebound and slammed it home with 0.2 seconds remaining.

Officials initially waved off the basket, calling basket interference. But after review, they ruled it a legal shot, giving Duke a 76-74 lead while adjusting the game clock to 0.4 seconds. The game wasn't over yet.

Wake Forest sophomore guard Damari Monsanto took the inbounds pass on the ensuing possession and unleashed a nearly full-court heave that almost bounced off the backboard and in. Instead, it ricocheted off the front of the rim and out as Duke held on for the win.

Scheyer gives update on Coach K

Scheyer told ESPN after the game that he didn't have any information on Krzyzewski.

"I really don't know," Scheyer said of Krzyzewski's condition. "I've been coaching the game. I'm sure he's doing fine, but obviously we're concerned about him first and foremost. He'll be doing a lot better with the fact that it's a win."

He later told reporters that Krzyzewski felt well enough to speak with the team after the game.

Krzyzewski, 75, is in his final season as Duke's head coach. He announced during the offseason that his 42nd season with the Blue Devils would be his last. Scheyer, a former Duke player and assistant coach since 2014, is slated to take over the program next season.
