Aaron Rodgers, Packers survive first-half shootout for 6th straight win over Bears

For a moment on Sunday night, it looked like Aaron Rodgers’ “I still own you” comment was going to come back to bite him.

But thanks to a run in the second half, Rodgers and the Green Bay Packers kept their place atop the NFC North and their bid to claim the top seed in the conference alive.

Green Bay rallied to beat the Bears 45-30 on Sunday at Lambeau Field, marking its sixth consecutive win over Chicago.

The Packers put up 17 points in the third quarter — after entering the half down six following a shootout in the second quarter — behind a pair of touchdowns from Aaron Jones and a Mason Crosby pitch shot to retake control of the game. From there, Green Bay held on and kept the Bears to a field goal in the final 15 minutes to claim their second straight win.

The Packers hold a 10-3 record and sit even with the Tampa Bay Buccaneers and half a game back from the Arizona Cardinals — who will take on the Los Angeles Rams on Monday night — for the lead in the NFC.

Bears hold on in wild second quarter shootout

The second quarter on Sunday night was absolutely wild.

By the time both teams went into halftime, they had scored a combined 45 points after three deep touchdown passes, a pick-6 and a punt return for a touchdown.

Chicago, after a field goal in the first quarter, took a 10-point lead first after Jakeem Grant broke open a huge 46-yard touchdown grab after sprinting up the sideline and somehow staying in play.

That touchdown marked Grant’s second of the season, and second in two weeks.

That 10-0 advantage they built, though, disappeared almost instantly.

Rodgers led the Packers down on a 75-yard drive capped by a two-yard Allen Lazard touchdown to put them on the board. Then just plays later, Rasul Douglas picked off Bears quarterback Justin Fields and ran 55 yards back for a touchdown.

Just like that, the Packers held a four-point lead.

The high-powered second quarter continued, as Fields found Damiere Byrd for a 54-yard touchdown — his first of the season — right away on the next drive to retake the lead.

Then, after forcing fourth down just after the two-minute warning, Grant snuck around to the outside and returned the Packers’ punt 97 yards for a touchdown.

Rodgers hit right back just before halftime, after he found Devante Adams for a weaving 38-yard touchdown.

For good measure, Bears kicker Cairo Santos hit a 44-yard field goal just before halftime to give them a 27-21 lead at the break.

The Bears, who added only three points after that second-quarter run, have lost seven of their past eight, with the lone win coming against the Detroit Lions on Thanksgiving.

Justin Fields went 18-of-32 for 224 yards with two touchdowns and a pair of interceptions for the Bears. He was also their leading rusher with 72 yards on the ground on nine carries.

Rodgers went 29-of-37 for 341 yards and four touchdowns on the night. A.J. Dillon had 71 yards on the ground on 15 carries.

The Packers will take on the Baltimore Ravens next week.
