Former NFL punter-turned-broadcaster Pat McAfee got to live his childhood dream of being a pro wrestler last night, upsetting Austin Theory in the co-main event of WrestleMania 38. Suffice it to say, he handled himself well.

McAfee had the support of the entire WWE Universe as he took on theory. Not known for being a world-class athlete, the former Pro Bowl punter showed surprising agility and even did an impressive backflip off the turnbuckle at one point.

McAfee won the match by countering Theory’s finishing maneuver into a roll-up. At 9 minutes and 40 seconds, it was a longer match than four others WWE put on over the two-night event.

Unfortunately, WWE chairman Vince McMahon tried to rain on McAfee’s parade, and beat him in 3:40 with Theory’s help. But not before McAfee got his WrestleMania moment.

The entire sports world was impressed with how he performed yesterday:

Pat McAfee wasn’t the only non-wrestler who claimed victory at WrestleMania 38. On Night 1 of the event, Logan Paul teamed up with The Miz to beat Rey and Dominik Mysterio.

Earlier on Night 2, Jackass star Johnny Knoxville topped Sami Zayn in an Anything Goes Match.

But of all the celebrity wrestlers we saw at WWE’s landmark event, McAfee was the one who truly distinguished himself. And he’s made everyone proud.

We definitely haven’t seen the last of McAfee in a WWE ring.
