Sports roundup: Riverheads, Buffalo Gap softball win; Draft girls soccer blanks Fort

GREENVILLE — Riverheads freshman Hattie Croft threw a no-hitter against Staunton Tuesday night in a 15-0 win in Shenandoah District softball.

Croft faced 17 batters, striking out nine of them and walking just two in the victory. Maggie Robertson, Ella Galford, Payton Patterson and Montana Deming all had a pair of hits for the Gladiators, who improved to 5-4 overall and 4-1 in the district.

Meanwhile, Buffalo Gap beat Waynesboro 9-1 Tuesday. Karah Richie and Caroline Alger both hit home runs and finished the night with three RBIs apiece. Bailey Talley also added a homer for the Bison. Talley and Richie each had three hits on the night.

Rachel Showalter and Alger both pitched, combining to strike out 13 and give up just three hits. Gap improved to 6-2 overall and 4-2 in the Shenandoah District.

Girls Soccer

Stuarts Draft beat Fort Defiance 2-0 Tuesday to improve to 7-3 overall and 3-3 in district play. Maddie Baska and Hailey Cox both scored goals for the Cougars with Lydia Monroe and Brennan Drumheller getting assist in the win.
