Softball: Bison rally for win

GREENVILLE — Trailing by one heading to the seventh inning, Buffalo Gap rallied for four to beat Riverheads 8-5 in Shenandoah District softball Monday. Gap has won nine of its last 10 and finishes the regular season at home against Waynesboro Wednesday. There is now a three-way tie for first in the Shenandoah District with Gap, Riverheads and Stuarts Draft all 8-3.

Buffalo Gap's Bailey Talley had two home runs, part of a three-hit game. The senior also scored twice in the win. Gap freshman Elissa Caricofe also hit a homer and finished with three RBIs in the win. Caroline Alger pitched the complete game, striking out 13.

Maggie Robertson and Cheyenne Bottenfield both had home runs for Riverheads in the loss. Bottenfield pitched 6-plus innings, striking out 11 in the loss.

Wilson Memorial beat Stuarts Draft 9-0 in boys tennis Monday to improve to 11-0 in district play and 12-3 overall.

The Fort Defiance girls tennis team beat Staunton 9-0 Monday.

“The team waited until the final match of the season to play their best tennis," Fort coach John Edgecomb said. "Each player demonstrated patience and minimized their unforced errors. Both were key to this victory.”
