Following the death of Rush Limbaugh earlier this year, his showrunners have been looking for a permanent replacement. Today it was revealed that Clay Travis will be one of those replacements.

The Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday that Travis and conservative radio host Buck Sexton will be taking over Limbaugh’s radio show. Travis quickly confirmed the announcement.

The new show will debut on June 21, 2021 and air between 12 and 3 p.m. EST. Travis stated that Friday, May 28, 2021 will be his final day on his Outkick AM sports radio show.

“Big news: I’ll be joining @BuckSexton in Rush Limbaugh’s 12-3 et radio time slot starting June 21st. I can’t wait to get rolling,” Travis tweeted. Tomorrow will be my final day of @outkick AM sports radio.

Buck Sexton also confirmed the announcement on his own Twitter account. He said he’s looking forward to working with Travis.

“Needless to say, I could not be more excited,” Sexton tweeted. “[Clay Travis] and I are going to do a great show together. Get ready for it, America.”

Naturally, the reaction has been mixed. Rush Limbaugh was a controversial media figure, and people know exactly what to expect from anyone replacing him.

Conservatives and Outkick.com fans love the hire. People who are in neither category abhor it.

“Clay Travis went from SEC football hot take artist to conservative talk mogul,” Nate Rau of Tennessee Lookout tweeted. “Quite a transformation. He’s taking over Rush Limbaugh’s radio time slot.”

“Clay Travis, sports radio host: Athletes should stick to sports. Also Clay Travis, sports radio host: I’m replacing Rush Limbaugh,” journalist Mark Potts wrote, pointing out the irony of Travis move to the political sphere.
