Sports bars near TCU in Fort Worth ready for championship game watch parties

Two notes about Monday night:

Yes, there are places to watch the TCU-Georgia game.

And if you’re not watching, it’s a great night to get a table in crowded restaurants.

TCU’s two most famous sports bar-and-grills lead the list of fan favorites:

Buffalo Bros’ tailgate party stand in Phoenix brought a taste of the TCU neighborhood to the Fiesta Bowl game Dec. 31, 2022.

Buffalo Bros, ranked among the nation’s “Best College Football Bars” by a national foodie website, actually hosted a tailgate party at the Fiesta Bowl in Phoenix.

It’ll host celebrations Monday in Fort Worth and if plans work out, in Los Angeles.

Both Buffalo Bros pizza-wings-and-subs restaurants and their cousin burger cafe, Jon’s Grille, will serve purple milkshakes and beers and “Hypnotoad” margaritas.

Every Monday is half-price pizza night.

In Phoenix, Buffalo Bros served wings and fries at a special “Taste of Home” concession stand in the concourse.

Buffalo Bros is open for lunch, dinner and late-night dining until 2 a.m. every night; 3015 S. University Drive, 817-386-9601, or 415 Throckmorton St., 817-887-9533, buffalobrostexas.com.

Next door on South University Drive, Dutch’s Hamburgers and Dutch’s Burrito Bar are legacy restaurants filled with Horned Frogs memorabilia.

It’s all a tribute to 1930s national championship TCU coach Dutch Meyer, a Hall of Famer known for telling teams to “fight ‘em till hell freezes over, then fight ‘em on the ice.”

Dutch’s, a former Texas Monthly top-50 pick for burgers, has added an adjacent bar, a rooftop terrace and a burrito stand since chef Lou Lambert and partners opened it in 2007.

fans come back for Dutch’s half-pound burgers, green chile burritos or first-rate “Frog Dogs” and Frito pie with serious Texas chili.

The prize-winning original burgers remain on the menu, such as a bacon-blue-cheeseburger with chipotle mayo or the “Vaquero” bacon-cheddar burger with fried onion-and-jalapeno strings and barbecue sauce.

Dutch’s is open for lunch and dinner daily; 3009 S. University Drive, 817-927-5522, dutchshamburgers.com.

Another choice: Heim Barbecue, which served hundreds of burritos at an AT&T Stadium tailgate party in Arlington before the Big 12 Conference championship game.

Heim is open Mondays and every day from 9 a.m. through dinner at its Southside location, 1109 W. Magnolia Ave, 817-882-6970, and also at a Dallas location, 3130 W. Mockingbird Lane, 469-397-4346; heimbbq.com.

Official alumni parties

The official TCU game-watching party is usually at a Fort Worth location of the Buffalo Wild Wings chain, 629 Stayton St.

In Los Angeles

The championship game dining scene in Los Angeles will revolve around the Taste of the Championship, a $300 food and wine tasting event featuring California chefs.

The event is at 4 p.m. Sunday at Hudson Loft, 1200 S. Hope St., near the sports arenas.

Tickets were still available early this week at cfp-foundation.org/champtaste.
