Spicy fried chicken, boba tea shop near University of Kentucky campus closes

A Lexington cafe that specialized in spicy Taiwanese fried chicken apparently has closed.

Kung Fu Tea x TKK Fried Chicken opened in 2022 in The Hub apartment complex at 685 S. Limestone.

Opened by University of Kentucky alumni Duc Tran and his brother Duy Tran, Kung Fu Tea also specialized in boba tea, milk cap tea and other Asian favorites.

The brothers hoped to appeal to UK students across the street on the nearby campus and in the area’s apartments. The restaurant opened around the same time as Bad Ass Coffee and other new food shops in the Limestone campus corridor.

A sign on the door of the Lexington location said that the restaurant closed permanently as of March 8.

“We thank our customers and everyone for supporting us and being so amazing!!” the sign said.

A Louisville location appears to be open.
