The 'Special Thing' Salma Hayek Does When Creating Holiday Dishes

These days, it is not at all uncommon for a celebrity to put out their very own cookbook. It seems now that the requirements for being able to make your own cookbook are pretty loose, and because of that, we are both blessed and burdened by a slew of celebrity cookbooks that tend to oversaturate the market.

This, however, is not always a bad thing. Without non-chef celebrity cooks, we wouldn’t have classics such as Snoop Dogg’s Shrimp Salad and Stanley Tucci’s utter thirst trap of a Breakfast Pasta.

But have you ever wondered about Salma Hayek, and why on earth the multitalented Oscar-nominated actress has yet to step into the world of celebrity cuisine? Well, in a recent interview with People, Hayek, 57, made it obvious that cooking is very much a personal experience that she enjoys sharing with her family. She also claims that she doesn’t “have any recipes,” so there’s that too.

On the topic of Christmas, Hayek explains that she and her mother “have never not cooked for Christmas.” The Magic Mike: Last Dance star describes cooking as “a way for families to come together,” and she admits that she actually doesn’t have any recipes written down.

“I love to go look at the food and make up the recipe as we go,” Hayek explains. “That’s my special thing.”

Hayek’s knack for improvisation has been on display in film and television for years, so it comes as no surprise that the mother of one with three step-children would prefer to freestyle her recipes.

“When you have kids, you learn to do that,” Hayek assures readers. And although her methods are unorthodox, Hayek’s approach to the kitchen generally ends in what she refers to as “a once in a lifetime opportunity.”

Much like a long lasting career that spans across genres, there is only one person who can pull that off, and that is Salma Hayek. And if she would rather keep her culinary experiences personal and reserved specifically for her loved ones, then we just have to respect that. But if one day she decides to actually put those “once in a lifetime opportunities” down on paper, we’ll be there ready to scoop up a copy immediately.
