Special Shelter Dog Born With Leg Deformity Is Capturing Hearts Everywhere

For some reason, there are people who see shelter dogs as less desirable, or 'leftovers.' While these dogs have faced challenges in their lives, they are no less perfect than the puppies who go home straight from breeders. Rescue dogs come in all ages, sizes, and breeds, and they all have a one-of-a-kind story to tell.

Every shelter dog is special and unique, too, but there's one more thing about adoptable pup Ziggy that's also special. He was born with a deformity in one of his front legs, so the way this tripod walks, runs, and interacts can look a little different. Nevertheless, he's never let his differences slow him down, and he's waiting patiently at the Humane Society of Ventura County to find his forever home.

On March 13, the animal shelter posted a precious video of the adorable small dog in hopes of boosting his chances at getting adopted. Take a look!

Aww! Ziggy looks like such a happy dog, and it's clear as crystal that he has lots of human and canine friends at the southern California shelter. His body language is relaxed and carefree as he romps around the yard with other small dogs, and the volunteer playing with them makes sure to include him, too.

Even though he is already very loved, nothing would be better than finding Ziggy a dedicated forever home! He'll need an owner who's patient when he takes a bit longer to hop across the yard, but aside from that, this 2-year-old mixed breed dog just needs love.

The only thing that would make his ideal home even more perfect is having another dog to play and bond with. This little guy is incredibly social, and it would be great for his mental health and transition from the shelter to have a buddy at home.

Adopting a Special Needs Dog

This little Chug (that's a mix between a Chihuahua dog and a Pug) is the perfect advocate for other special needs rescue dogs. He's living, breathing proof that dogs with deformities are just as playful and loving as any other. They'll make a perfect companion for anyone who's ready to accept them--they just need a chance to show it.

True, some special needs dogs require extra care that you wouldn't have to worry about otherwise. This will vary from dog to dog, but a conversation with animal shelter staff can give you a better idea of what a special needs dog's day-to-day life is like. More often than not, their routine care becomes just another habit in your day!

Whether you're interested in meeting Ziggy at the Ventura County Humane Society or have your eye on another special needs dog near you, consider this your sign to give them a chance.
