Spanish bishop resigns after falling in love with erotic fiction writer

A Spanish bishop, known for his ultra conservative views including favoring conversion therapy, has unexpectedly resigned after falling in love with a Satanic erotic fiction writer.

Xavier Novell, 52, announced his resignation from his position as bishop at the diocese of Solsona in August, citing “personal reasons.”

What parishioners didn’t know is that the priest had fallen in love with writer Silvia Caballol, an erotic novelist and divorcee known for her work including “Amnesia Trilogy,” and “Hell in Gabriel’s Lust,” according to BBC News.

The paper went on to report that Pope Francis himself had approved Novell’s resignation as a priest. Novell will now have to ask for the Pope’s permission for a dispensation from the priestly vow of celibacy and obedience that all bishops in the Catholic Church must take when they enter the clergy.

Novell was quoted in Religión Digital, saying that “I have fallen in love and want to do things properly. It is a magnificent vocation but I see that the Lord has wanted me to renounce that beautiful thing to have a bigger family.”

In 2010, Novell became the youngest bishop in Spain at 41 years old. He previously admitted over a decade ago that before making the decision to follow his calling to the priesthood, he wanted to “have children.”
