Southern Miss baseball live score updates vs App State: Sun Belt play resumes after delays

MONTGOMERY, Ala — Southern Miss baseball has survived its first two games of the Sun Belt tournament, but it hasn't been easy cruising.

The Golden Eagles needed a rally in the bottom of the eighth inning in both games. First, they scored five runs to break a 0-0 tie against Coastal Carolina. Then on Thursday, the Golden Eagles scored three runs in a 6-5 win against Troy. They were rewarded with a day off on Friday and held a light practice at Alabama State.

No. 2 seed Southern Miss (39-18) was in a weather delay against No. 6 Appalachian State (33-20-1) for 2 hours, 48 minutes beginning at 10:08 a.m. Play was stopped at the end of the second inning with the Mountaineers leading 5-2. The game resumed at 12:56 p.m.

Then, the game was in another weather delay starting at 2 p.m. Play halted in the bottom of the fifth inning with Southern Miss leading 7-5. Teams were sent back to their hotels.

The game resumed at 7:37 p.m. Any "if necessary" games will be played on Sunday, according to the conference.
