Monday, April 22

SOFTBALL

Apponequet 8, Case 3: The Lakers (4-3, 2-1 SCC) handed the defending state champions their first loss of 2024. Lauren Bernaiche pitched a complete game, allowing three earned runs off seven hits with no walks and 10 strikeouts. Christina Magnett went 2-for-3 with a double, two RBIs and a run scored while Caleigh Venuti was 1-for-4 with a three-run home run. Arianna Camara was 1-for-3 with a walk and home run. Hailey DaRosa went 2-for-3.

Somerset Berkley 10, GNB Voc-Tech 1: The Bears (4-2, 2-1 SCC) managed just five hits and Ava Neno had the only RBI of the day. Ana Tsonis went the distance, allowing 10 runs on 11 hits with three hits and the Bears committing two errors.

Dighton-Rehoboth 14, Old Rochester 1: Caitlin O’Donnell scored the lone run for ORR (3-5, 1-2 SCC) off an RBI double from Tara Goldman, who had six strikeouts in three innings on the mound.

Fairhaven 18, West Bridgewater 11: Arden Bradshaw was the winning pitcher for Fairhaven (4-4, 2-1 SCC). Stella Zangao went 4-for-5 with a double and five RBIs while Ava Morrison was 4-for-5. Kaia Furtado went 3-for-6 with a home run and two RBIs while Sydney Merusi was 2-for-3 with a home run and three RBis. Elaine Monroe (four RBIs), Emma Gomes (three RBIs) and Alyin Haworth (RBI) all went 3-for-5.

New Bedford 18, Durfee 6: Hayleigh Chenard was the winning pitcher for New Bedford (2-3, 1-0 SEC), allowing six runs (three earned) off eight hits and three walks while striking out 10. At the plate, Chenard went 2-for-2 with a single, solo home run and three runs scored. Annabelle Huston was 2-for-2 with three runs scored and three RBIs while JJ Greene was 3-for-3 with two doubles, two runs scored and two RBIs. .

Wareham 22, Avon 2 (5 innings): The Vikings (5-2, 1-1 Mayflower Comprehensive) captured their second straight win as Madison Nereu pitched a five-inning no-hitter with one earned run and 12 strikeouts. She also went 1-for-2 at the plate with four runs scored and two RBIs. Olivia LaCava was 3-for-5 with two RBIs and three runs scored while Jossalyn Anctil was 2-for-6 with three runs scored. Jolee Anderson went 2-for-4 with a double and grand slam with six RBIs and two runs scored. Savannah Varden was 3-for-4 with two RBIs and three runs scored while Samantha Purcell went 3-for-4 with a double, RBI and two runs scored. Bryanna Troupe went 1-for-1 with her first varsity hit and scored a run. Sawyer Boutin was 1-for-2 with a double and three RBIs.

BASEBALL

Dartmouth 7, Westport 3: Jayden Claudio (1-0) got the win in relief, giving up one run off one hit in three innings for Dartmouth (5-1, 1-0 SEC). Louie Freitas started the game, allowing two unearned runs off two hits while striking out four in three innings. Justin Cleves went 2-for-4 with three RBIs while Madden Ollila was 2-for-4.

Fairhaven 10, West Bridgewater 1: Colby Correia had a bases-loaded clearing double in the fourth inning and a three-run home run in the sixth for Fairhaven (4-3, 3-1 SCC). He finished with six RBIs and two runs scored. Chase Feno went 3-for-3 with a double and a run scored while Nikko Morris was 1-for-2 with a run scored, stolen base and RBI. Sam Simone went 1-for-1 with his first varsity hit. Christopher Blake was 1-for-2 with a walk, double and run scored while Scott Joseph was 1-for-2 with two walks and two runs scored. Jason Perry pitched six innings, allowing one unearned run on one hit and three walks while striking out nine.

Case 3, Apponequet 1: The Lakers (5-1, 2-1 SCC) only had three infield hits with one apiece from Seth Richards, Dylan Bradley and Justin Serrecchia as they suffered their first loss of the season. Gabe Zuber pitched six innings, striking out six while allowing five hits and walking six with two hit batsmen.

Somerset Berkley 11, GNB Voc-Tech 0: Cam Cabral and Illiam Santiago each had a hit for the Bears.

Nauset 9, Bishop Stang 8: Drew Taylor went 3-for-3 for Bishop Stang (2-5, 0-2 CCL) with two RBIs and a run scored while Matt Burt was 1-for-3 with two RBIs and a run scored. Bobby Rooney was 1-for-3 with two walks and three runs scored.

GIRLS LACROSSE

Apponequet 20, Middleboro 4: Abby Bradley notched seven goals to power the Lakers (4-1) while Jayleigh Howart added four goals and Niamh Gallagher chipped in with three. Cynthia Morales and Leah McGee scored once each. Ally Arruda made eight saves.

New Bedford 15, Bourne 4: Violet Lopes led the Whalers (4-4) with four goals while Peighton Sousa, Hannah Blanchard and Olivia Medeiros each had two goals and one assist. Anette Bennett-Tucker made eight saves.

St. Mary’s 7, Bishop Stang 6: Sydney Plouffe and Molly Kearney had two goals apiece while Sofie Doucet and Caroline Hopkins added one goal each for Stang (3-5, 1-4 CCL).

BOYS LACROSSE

Bishop Stang 13, St. Mary’s 3: Eli Ikkela led the Spartans (3-3, 3-2 CCL) with four goals and three assists while Andrew Lally added three goals and three assists and Miles Millan chipped in with three goals. Will Sanders had 11 saves.

Apponequet 21, Middleboro 2: Kenny Wisniewski had six goals and five assists while Will Levrault had six goals and two assists for Apponequet (4-2, 3-0 SCC). Jake Cusson added three goals and eight assists while Colin McKay had three goals and two assists. Kevin O’Connor won 15 faceoffs. Hunter Owen had five saves while Braden Baril added three.

South Shore 9, Old Colony 8: The Cougars (4-2, 4-1 MAC) got three goals apiece from Stu Burnham and Brody Darling while Mason Belanger added two goals.

BOYS TENNIS

Fairhaven 5, Westport 0: The Blue Devils (2-3) got wins from No. 1 Kole Pinto (6-0, 6-1), No. 2 Coby Yin (7-5, 6-0), No. 3 Alex Hu (6-3, 7-6), the first doubles team of Chris Hu and Noah Pacheco (7-5, 6-2) and the second doubles team of Jesse Chen and Noah Petruski.

GIRLS TENNIS

Fairhaven 5, Westport 0: Winners for the Blue Devils (4-2, 3-0 SCC) were No. 1 Elizabeth DaCunha (6-1, 6-1), No. 2 Sabrina Zheng (6-0, 6-0), No. 3 Olivia Darmofal (6-0, 6-0), the first doubles team of Emily Giammalvo and Hazel Hochella (6-1, 6-3) and the second doubles team of Emma Cabral and Mikayla Smith (6-0, 7-6).
